Tap wellwisher to gain like 10 life, return llanowar elves to your hand with the symbiote, untap wellwisher, tap wellwisher to gain like 10 life, play llanowar elves, make a token with lys alana huntmaster, tap seeker of skybreak, untap wellwisher, tap wellwisher to gain like 10 life, tap wirewood lodge, untap wellwisher, tap wellwisher to gain like 10 life, untap wellwisher with instill energy, tap wellwisher to gain like 10 life...

The elf deck sure does keep your hands moving. You could also be making tokens with imperious perfect instead of gaining life.

This would be a lot of fun with Elvish Visionary...

There are so many elves with good comes into play abilities that the symbiote should have no problem finding it's way into decks.

This card was good at untapping elves but his real value is protecting them. Elves are very easy to cast but they often get targeted with Shock, Lightning Bolt, Terror, Doom Blade etc. This guy allows you to send an elf targeted with removal back to your hand instead of to your graveyard, allowing you to recast the cheap elf.

Your opponent will get very frustrated when you turn all his removal spells into bounce spells.

You can go infinite draw and mana as early as turn 3 with this, llanowar elves, elvish archdruid, and elvish visionary.

Turn 1: Land, Llanowar Elves.
Turn 2: Land, Elvish Archdruid.
Turn 3: Wirewood Symbiote, Elvish Visionary, go infinite.

hey hammythehamster, look closer at the card. It says "use this ability only once per turn"

A friend uses this to bounce back Bloodbraid Elf to cascade every turn <- best cascade 'combo' I've ever seen :p

Elvish Piper. Turns it into a Master Transmuter for elves, except it untaps itself. Pretty awesome.

There are lots of cards which combo really well with this - enough to make a good deck.

@Hammy
No you can't. This can only be used once per turn. You would at best go "5 times" assuming you kept drawing and playing wirewood symbiotes.

That said, this card is pretty darn sweet. Protection, pseudo-vigilance, extra mana, card draw, life, etc.. all enabled by this card.

It could go infinite if you can turn it into an Elf, since the once per turn limit is reset if you bounce and replay the Symbiote. For example, if you have an Elvish Archdruid, Runed Stalactite and at least two other Elves:

1. Play Wirewood Symbiote (-1 mana), equip Runed Stalactite (-2 mana)
2. Tap Elvish Archdruid for mana (+4 mana)
3. Bounce Wirewood Symbiote to untap Elvish Archdruid.
4. Repeat.

This card is absolutely amazing in Elf Decks. Not only does it do the obvious which is saving a targeted elf while untapping another (like Priest of Titania), but in a Combo Elf Deck it also keeps your combo engine going. Not only does it trigger Glimpse of Nature itself, but it returns a creature to your hand to cast again, and untaps a mana producing elf, meaning you can trigger Glimpse again and again and again! 5/5 Card, I'd rate it higher if I could!

If you read "Play this ability only once per turn" and think INFINITE COMBO? CHALLENGE ACCEPTED, you might be a Johnny.

If playing this ability to dodge removal would leave you feeling mildly depressed, but you still put four in your deck, you might be a Johnny.

If you're actually honestly thinking of running this with Conspiracy or Xenograft, you might be a Johnny.

If you are running four Green Sun's Zenith, one copy of Symbiote, four copies of Shardless Agent, four copies of Bloodbraid Elf, and four copies of Hypergenesis... are you me?

And you're either doing it very very wrong or doing it very very right. I can't tell which.

I know it's not the best combo, but right in the deck with it, I'm surprised nobody mentioned Wood Elves. If you've got a level 1 Joraga Treespeaker out, these three cards can make for insanely powerful mana ramp. And right in the same deck, Slate of Ancestry is all the card-drawing you'll need when you empty out your hand with all that mana on like turn four/five.
