Vanilla life gain (without any additional effects) is usually underpowerd, this comes close to being good, & is still a very elegant card.

Twice as good as Stream of Life.

No, it would grant you 2X life. Say you've got 3 plains, 5 forests. Tap them all for mana. X=7. Dawnglow Infusion checks to see if you spent G on X. You did, so you gain 7 life. Then it checks to see if you spent W on X. You did, so you gain 7 again. Total gain of 14 :)

It's easier than the rules text makes it seem. I was just playing in an online game and cast this spell with the above set up; that is, I had 5xG and 3xW in my mana pool, so X=7. My opponent insisted that I only gained 8 life...I could not for the life of me figure out how he was doing his math. He opted to quit the game instead of explaining.

In most cases, this will grant you 2(X-1) life in a W/G deck.
Not a bad deal i guess for lifegain.

Edit: Sorry Jagyr, with X i did not refer to the rules text on the card, i was regarding this as an effect that costs X and grants you life. In your example you had eight mana in total in your mana pool an gained 14 life, that makes 2(8-1) = 14.

The life gain you can get from one of these is so much it should be noteworthy. Pair with felidar sovereign and you can win inside of only a turn or two of playing the felidar alongside a dawnglow infusion. It might be vanilla life gain, but its double x cost vanilla life gain, in a mana accel and mana boosting color. With garruk wildspeaker untapping two of your lands that are enchanted by something like fertile ground, you could play dawnglow infusion for 10+ around mid game, netting you 20. I can't foresee any game that it would be bad to be regaining 20 life during your turn.

@ Donovan: False Cure. Or if Rain of Gore is out. Just saying. This is still a great card though.

Exceptional lifegain spell. Excellent.

with 5 mana spent, you gain 8 life? Also better than sylvan bounty (8 life for 6 mana)

Heroes' Reunion is generally better for these colors. It only costs 2 for 7 life, while with this you need to spend 5 mana to gain one more life. Unless you have insane mana ramp, and in that case there are better uses for it (unless you have a Felidar Sovereign out). Rest for the Weary is also better, IMO.

I'm using a White Green deck, so if i've got 10 mana untapped on the battlefield, i can gain 18 life!
Boon Reflection and Mana Reflection will help me to get 64 life, then play Sanguine Bond...

@Everyone saying this is a good lifegain spell
Well...
um...
Heroes' Reunion, it's an instant too.
Unless you plan on spending more then 5 mana every time you play this.

Best lifegain out there if you are playing its colors.

I'm usually against one-shot lifegain, but this probably gives you enough life to be worth it.

A simple reference diagram:
Mana Spent / Single Color Life Gain / Double Color Life Gain
1 / 0 / 0
2 / 1 / 2
3 / 2 / 4
4 / 3 / 6
5 / 4 / 8
6 / 5 / 10
7 / 6 / 12
8 / 7 / 14

@Donovan_Fabian
It costs you 11 mana to gain 20 life, though. That's the same cost as Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre, for reference...
Personally I think Beacon of Immortality is much better than this one. Even Heroes Remembered seems better... and I don't even like that card.

The lifegain comes from seeing the art and suddenly being filled with awe and adoration, to the point that you completely forget about all your wounds and missing limbs. The more mana you have, the more energy you can expend appreciating Rebecca Guay's genius.

One of the few actually good "life gain only" cards. Congregate is another one for multiplayer. Still not for serious play though.

Depending on the board state, this could effectively fog your opponent for quite a while.

I had a fun janky combo deck based around Channel, this, and Manaplasm.

You'd double your life total (roughly), attack with 4 + your life total (1 power + 2 channel + 1 minimum dawnglow + X CMC put into dawnglow)

It was a pain to get to work but it was pretty funny when it worked.

Dang, people.

Why isn't this at 5 stars?

@blurrymadness I'm afraid your combo would only make Manaplasm a 4/4 creature - the X spent in casting Dawnglow Infusion doesn't count toward its converted mana cost. CMC is what's printed on the card, always - in this case, 1. No matter what, this card's CMC will always be 1, even if 100 mana was spent for X.

@Hagdorm: I am afraid you are wrong. A spell's cost includes the cost of X which is set when it is cast. From the second ruling on manaplasm: While a spell with {X} in its cost is on the stack, its converted mana cost takes the chosen value of X into account. For example, if you cast Blaze (a spell with the mana cost {X}{R}) and choose a value of 5 for that X, then your Manaplasm will get +6/+6 until end of turn.

As for this card? Its probably the best 1 shot life spell late game? I am still not terribly impressed, but if you play white and green and want life, this'll do it. Probably useful in EDH with those colors.
