unfortunately you'll need to do some color acrobatics, but this guy works nicely with
Sigil Captain, doesn't it?

Mode: Yes, it does work with Sigil Captain. All of the 2/2 persist creatures work with Sigil Captain. Try out Glen Elendra Archmage.

At first seemed a bit overcosted to me, but he proved his worth eventually. 4/5.

Beastmaster Ascension on the field, 7 counters(or more, dosent matter)and a Murderous Redapcap is cast, it deals 7 damage, and from the graveyard it deals 6 damage, i think thats all it does. work around R/G or B/G or R/G/W with sigil captain....lol

Does pretty nice when you already have mad aunties or chieftains out.

This guy combos real well with Juniper Order Ranger, he'll keep coming back forever, and the ranger gets bigger and bigger. Add in a sac outlet, and you have an infinite damage combo.

READ!!... Juniper Order Ranger and Sigil Captain adds +1/+1 counters, not remove it. So please stop with this infinite combo that will get newbies started. Logic invalid.

Once again Hokeymon... read the rulings on persist and how +1/+1 and -1/-1 counters work

He is my favorite card from shadowmoor the art work is awesome and a 2/2 persist and gives a total of 2+1 burn damage useful for taking out weakilings that boost other creatures think evlish arch druid

Actually, the rules say this:
120.2. If a permanent has both a +1/+1 counter and a -1/-1 counter on it, N +1/+1 and N -1/-1 counters are removed from it as a state-based action, where N is the smaller of the number of +1/+1 and -1/-1 counters on it. See rule 704.

pro tip: when a creature has both +1/+1 counters and -1/-1 counters on it, the counters cancel each other and are removed.

it's true.

go nuts.

Like all persist guys he is fun with power conduit. Still it's even better with him compared to other persisters, because he cares for his power.

Like, he dies, persists back into play. In response to his triggered ability you have the power conduit remove the -1/-1 counter as a cost and as an effect put a +1/+1 counter on him. So when his ability resolves he is 3/3, dealing 3 damage to a target, and also beeing able to persist back agian later. :)

Actually works well with Quest for the Goblin Lord.
Nets you two counters on the enchantment,
And even if it's been powered up all the way,
More power to deal directly to the creature/player of your choice.
Not to mention how fun it is to have him around with Quillspike and Bloodthrone Vampire.

no one has talked about Murderous Redcap with Dread Return :/
you can use Murderous Redcap to flash back, and if you had 3 Murderous Redcaps out to flash back Dread Return..

Salostot: Sorry to rain or your parade but by the time you get all 4 lieges out you've lost, it's almost impossible, although with just one liege, or two if you're lucky, he is nasty enough, and if you really want to shake things up, try Everlasting torment with him and put 4-6 -1/-1 counters on a creature. Although i don't run that enchantment so much any more, i prefer to use it directly at an opponent.

@ infernox10:

Nice infinite combo. If you wanted to be less cheap, you could just put him in a nice goblin deck with Goblin Chieftain.

The best card to go with Melira, Sylvok Outcast and a repeatable sacrifice engine. It also sounds good with some Goblin lords to pump it up.

It can be 4 for 1 on its own
I play it in my B/R aggro deck and it Kills Every FUCK1NG aggros like Kred or Tsteel or Quest
Best with dark ritual

This guy works wonders with Torrent of Souls in my b/r aggro deck. I can imagine it working pretty well in b/r goblins as well, especially when you're playing a lot of goblin lords.

To clarify, he does 2 damage coming in, and then when coming back from the graveyard due to persist, would do another 2 damage, yes?

Great target for Lyzolda, the blood witch, Burnt offering and Torrent of Souls especially when Ashenmoor Liege is around... Can also be fed to Xathrid Demon - twice! This is what I usually do:

1. Swamp
2. Swamp / mountain + Dark ritual - Ashenmoor Liege
3. Land - Lyzolda, the bloodwitch
4. Land - Murderous redcap
5. Land - Burnt offering on the Redcap, 3 damage persist, tap lands for total of 8 mana in pool - Din of the Fireherd - opponent already crying
6. Use Lyzolda's ability to sacrifice either the redcap or the token you just created. After this it's all about what you got in hand, you can either play more redcaps, maybe bring your old redcap back with torrent of souls etc. etc. etc.

What happens is you keep drawing cards, dealing damage AND you have plenty of mana thanks to Burnt offering and Dark Ritual. A din of the fireherd here and there makes sure that your opponent ends up just watching you play.

Poor redcap, always coming to the field just to be sacrificed in a way or another. And his poor burnt and whipped body is even dug up from the ground just so he can experience it all again.

Juniper Order Ranger + ashnod's altar + Deathgreeter + Mentor of the Meek + Murderous redcap = Infinite mana + infinite life + infinite draw + an infinitely big Juniper Order Ranger

It's... Kinda cute actually. WHO'S A GOOD LITTLE PSYCHOPATH? YOU ARE! YES YOU ARE!

Anyways, seems decent with Dead Reckoning, in conjunction with other burn combos.

Another infinite combo with the Redcap goes like this. Play a sacrifice engine. Play Mikaeus, the Unhallowed. Play the Redcap, then sack it with its new Undying ability on top of the stack. It comes into play with a +1/+1 counter and deals 4 damage. Sack it again, but this time place its Persist ability on top so it comes into play with a -1/-1 counter. It deals 2 damage. Sack it again, placing the Undying ability on top once more, and so on.

As long as you keep alternating the top of the stack, the Redcap will always come back and you can deal arbitrary amounts of damage to anything you please.

@wadprime

While that's a nice combo, it doesn't work. Primal Forcemage has an triggered ability that uses the stack. When Redcap enters the battlefield, that trigger goes on the stack and by the time it resolves, Mighty Emergence has missed it's chance to trigger.

Even if that part did work, When Redcap comes back from persist, it would only be 4/4, not big enough to trigger Mighty Emergence. Still, this guy does work amazing with Primal Forcemage. Work the triggers so that you deal 5 damage first time around, and 4 damage second time around. Nice little trick.

On the card itself, definitely one of my favorites. I'm working on a Jund-esque deck with him as the star :) Can't wait to see if it works in modern.
