provides some sick combo-action with chimney imp. That alone makes it vintage playable

With Scry in Standard, I can see this guy seeing a little action in a casual game.

It's a strange ability, that much is certain. I think that Moosecadet has hit the nail on the head - it can certainly make your opponents think twice about using the harbingers (Boggart, Elvish,Giant, etc).

Also, this is the set that clash debuted in - perhaps this guy was included as a way to help you have a better shot of winning a clash (or to deprive your opponent of a good card revealed in a clash). He's quite good at that.

Auntie wisdom is awesome! Seems like the forager always gets the "lose a hand" option.

4x Black Lotus, get 12 red mana, play one of these, play a kicked rite of replication, play a pyretic ritual, then a seething song

TO MAKE YOUR OPPONENT SHUFFLE THEIR LIBRARY FIVE TIMES ON THE FIRST TURN!

IT FORAGES.

Can't argue with that.

The most terrifying card of all time. Once, my opponent played this one the first turn. I didn't even bother to look at my hand before conceding.

I guess you could use it in Commander to tick people off... That sac ability could have done without the Red activation.

@Arachibutyrophobia - How'd you get the blue mana needed for the Rite without popping one of the Lotuses for blue??

Step one: equip Pili-Pala with Paradise Mantle
Step two: With a Heartstone acquire infinite mana of any color by tapping, untapping Pili-Pala.
Step three: Sacrifice Boggart Forager to force opponent to shuffle their library.
Step four: Using the infinite mana already acquired, equip Order of Whiteclay with the paradise mantle and proceed to bring back Boggart Forager from your graveyard.
Step five: Watch opponents face as they realize they will spend the rest of their life shuffling their deck.

It's my first belief that anything you can use in a good combo or perform an interesting effect with should get at least a 2. Now, this is a pretty lame effect. It's highly unlikely this guy will win you games. But he's also a 1/1 for 1, which is always at least decent without a drawback. So he gets a 2.5 from me. Not because he is good, but because he's not really bad.

On another note, though, the guy's similar to Soldier of Fortune, 'cept with arguably TWO better creature types. Why the huge discrepancy? I can understand the sacrifice thing puts people off, but the ability isn't the best anyway.

"Auntie wisdom." Uh huh.

Niche effect, but it has its uses (messing up top-of-the-library tutors.) Hoses Harbingers in limited, as well as getting rid of a scary thing that a Clash revealed. And it can attack or block.
