Dredge is the best ability ever. brings back old cards. And fills up the graveyard. On top of pumping up another of your creatures, great stuff.

The new rules made it so combat Damage doesn't use the stack anymore. It used to be that You could block with this guy, have him deal his combat damage to whatever he's blocking, and then use his ability to pump up another creature.
After the change this card is much worse now to be totally honest. if you're consistently dredging him up, you're basically paying 3 mana to mill yourself by 3, and you skip your draw step. terrible for card advantage, and you get very little benefit overall. Might be redeemable if you're running a Savra, Queen of the Golgari

@Akromar, how is it terrible for card advantage? If you're using Dredge at all, it's because you've got ways of using cards in your graveyard. In which case mill 3 is like draw 3.
People sometimes have this weird idea that getting cards out of your library, or into your graveyard, is somehow a bad thing.
It's not terrible. It's three mana for a 3/1 with an ability. See Porcelain Legionnaire and Sacred Wolf. Then it has dredge. Dredge is good sometimes and sometimes not. It is optional. Besides with cards like Back From The Brink it is like drawing when you put them from the library to the graveyard. Same with Narcomoebea which you get for free when its milled or dredged.

This and many other cards (Sakura-Tribe Elder for example) from that time were awesome because of combat damage on stack. Now they're all toned down quite a bit.

Not as good post M10 I suppose but still a solid creature. I stuck him in a GB zombie deck just to play with him and he's always been useful.
