A very good defensive threat in multiplayer. Fated to be a casual only card, especially in the shadow of Cloudthresher.

Not only is he a huge wall, but completely wipes opponent's air forces with recurring "Hurricanes." I will be playing with mine in casual for a very long time.

The epitome of MTG spider awesomeness!
Green has always had a weakspot for flying. Spiders fill that spot.

Sure, it's strictly worse than cloudtresher, but it'll hose bigger flyers too. Probably the spider that made the second-biggest impression on me. It's just, like: "RAWR! Watch me pwn all your big fatty flyers into oblivion! >:D"

Much better than Cloudthresher IMO, for defensive purposes anyway. Two less green mana, repeatable flyer-killing capabilities.
Cloudthresher's definitely got it beat in terms of offense... but just slap an Aspect of Mongoose on this guy, and you've got a perfect anti-flying wall.

My absolute favourite creature. Works pretty good with a Sword of Kaldra attached to it.

Probably the best Reach creature in the game; Not only is he very tough to kill in a fight, but he can knock all those pesky fliers right out of the air.

Ah, good ol' silky. Total surface to air supremacy back in the day. Still pretty damn good.

This is not worse than Cloudthresher. Its casting cost allows it to be played with decks that have green rather than being mono-green, even if it can't be used as a fat attacker. Recurring control against flying creatures also makes this card earn its casting cost, not to mention the high toughness.

i am going to point somethings out that no one has; first good for one shot life gain if you give it life link before you blast all the air away, second death touch 3 mana for an air wrath is amazing

He byp@sses shroud on flyers, and in a green deck you probably won't have any trouble getting enough mana to clear most of the flyers from the field. On top of that, his toughness lets him survive most attackers period.
Other ways to make him good are to give him things like Sword of Kaldra like Gibbons suggested ({G}{G}{1} = All Flying take 1, they're removed from the game :D), or something that grants Deathtouch (same effect, only they die instead of getting removed).

Wonderfully horrible creature...depending on whose side its on. Use with Basilisk Collar.
Hurricane on a stick, and not so easily removed, too bad he does not hit player like Hurricane did though. Makes me want to build a new spider deck...

@Dark_Raider ...Um... this isn't Strictly worse than Cloudthresher. Cloudthresher deals 2 damage to all fliers, but also to you. And it deals it once. And it costs more to actually get it out as a defender, except you can evoke it to deal 2 damage and throw it in your graveyard, but...
So basically it's better if A: Your opponent has a crack team of trained Storm Crows and you have to kill them now, pay evoke, kill them. B: Your opponent is at 2 life.
However, I don't see an evoked Cloudthresher killing Baneslayer anytime soon.

love it. wiping out a field of angels for 8 mana which I can easily afford in an omnath deck.

Less of a beatstick than Cloudthresher but better as a defense against flyers on the whole. Like nammertime said the fact that this doesn't require 4 green mana also makes it more splashable.

Sadly, he is a Windstorm spider, not a Hurricane. Still, I'd like a reprint. Also, if those Storm Crows are REALLY giving you problems, throw a Basilisk Collar on him and they get extra dead.

@ Dark_Raider This is not strictly worse than Cloudthresher at all. In fact the general consensus is that this card is better. I think you need to learn that there's more to Magic than big numbers.

@NARFNra: *facepalm* First off, they're both very good creatures, but the benefit of Cloudthresher is that it has flash, meaning that if an opponent is swinging with an unsuspecting Baneslayer Angel, all of a sudden its being blocked by (one of) the best spaghetti monsters in the game, or cast it at the end of their turn to avoid summoning sickness... Furthermore, although the 2 damage dealt by Cloudthresher to you can hurt, if you're playing it, you're probably running mono {G}, and as such don't have too many flyers, the evoke ability is just icing on the cake really.
I'm using this in Doran EDH. Very nice without him and devastating with!

To return in M13. Welcome back, old friend. And beware, enemy fliers. Between this, the reprint of Deadly Recluse, and the new vigilant Sentinel Spider, something's telling me that Wizards is really pushing green anti-air.
