What its not that great of a main ability, I mean all it is is a more kill-able Righteous Cause. I would rather play a Congregate

I think this is the weakest of the patrons. It does not necessarily work well with the Kitsune cards available either.

Ugly? He's not supposed to catch your eye from across the room and seduce you with a wink. He's a giant, fox-devouring spirit. And he looks cool as mess.

A friend of mine actually used this to good effect at a tournament once. The meta was overrun with white weenie decks, so his counter deck used Kitsune Blademaster and a couple of other cards to force the decks to over commit, and then followed up with Wrath of God. Since it had the blademasters and some other foxes (maybe 8.5 tails or Samurai of the Pale Curtain? I can't remember exactly) he threw this in. Could easily come down on turn four, and a white weenie deck really can't deal with having its creatures deal 1 less damage each.

Fairly costed for a 5/6 that you can flash into play for like, 4 mana.

Aaaah! It's the Kyuubi! Somebody call out the ninjas! O_O
Seriously though, there are better uses for foxes like Rune-tail and co. than feeding to this silly thing, even if it is at instant speed. The Goblin and Snake versions, however...

Not the most awesome card in the history of forever, but its decent. Heck, I'd even put him in a casual deck with no foxes in it. Also, he's awesome cause he eats friggin' foxes for breakfast. 3.5/5.

This is not an easy card to use, as the tension is very bad. Do you sacrifice a fox right before their attack or afterwards? On one hand, you want to gain the life, and on the other you want to chomp one of the attackers, and you can't have it both ways unless your opponent is already desperate. Worst case, you throw it down before the attack, they kill it with a spell getting a two-for-one off of you, and now you are wide open. All that said, it is a solid body for a good price (for white at least) that impacts the board the turn you play it. There are a lot of powerful, non-legendary angels competing for the 6 mana slot in your decks though... The best use I can think of is to attack with your Samurai of the Pale Curtains and you sac whichever one gets munched by their big blocker. You can still get two-for-oned, but maybe you did some damage to your opponent in the meantime to make up for it. And if not then then might have held back blockers thinking to swing with you wide open the next turn.

You actually cant gain take advantage of the ability without your opponent knowing about it beforehand. This has to be on the field before they declare attackers or the ability does not trigger. And if this guys out, they can just choose not to attack. This might actually be a design flaw, since his fox offering wants you to cast him on their turn.
Then again, this might be what the designers intended. Cast him the phase before declare attackers, and now you just gave there aggro deck a tough decision. If they dont swing, then its mission accomplished for the turn. If they do, take something out and null the attack. But it might be more beneficial to flash him in as a blocker, depending if something must be taken out or not.
Thats enough theory crafting for today, and I am sure the designers knew what they were doing with this guy. Anyways, for its time it had a fantastic cost + body, a decent ability, and a way to cheat it out for far less, giving it flash. All things considered, including the terrific art + flavor, I am going to rate this a generous 4.5/5

The foxes are so pretty and this thing is so gross.
Silverstorm Samurai was made for this card. 4WW is way to much for a 3/3 but you can sacrifice him at any time to bring out this guy for a nice 1-2 punch. Because of that they have both earned a place in my Kitsune deck.
