The rarity going from mythic to normal rare made it lose trample unfortunately...

For sheer lulz, this plus Wild Defiance plus Aspect of Hydra would make it a 20/20 until end of turn and a 14/14 thereafter. And there's nothing keeping you from using the ability again next turn.
Seriously though, the number of anthems and temp buffs means you have access to, this can easily be over 10/10 the turn after it comes out.

Heroes' bane sounds more like a title for a legendary creature than the name of a beast.

I had this and Hydra Broodmaster at the pre-release and went W/G heroes and hydras. I didn't lose a single match.

Fun to play, but sorely wants trample. Thankfully, there happen to be a few cards that grant that...I mean, you are playing green. Plus, the ability is buckets of fun on toast. Seriously, the ability to double the counters -- multiple times per turn, mind you -- is something that my Timmy squeals in delight at. In short, fun to play, becomes a massive creature, but sorely needs trample and holds the risk of getting destroyed after you pour all your mana into it. So pack in some protection, slap some trample on it, and smash away.

@RAV0004, I totally agree. It looks like it should be ________, Heroes' Bane
This thing to me looks like the perfect big guy for a green EDH. If you've ever played against the average green EDH deck, they eventually shift over to "Battle Cruiser" magic, and this guy will fit the bill. He gets seriously out of hand given enough time.

Must answer in limited, or this guy will just take over and rofl stomp the opponent.

Attack; if unblocked; cast Giant Growth (Hero's Bane is 7/7 now for the turn), then activate its ability. It becomes a 14/14 for the turn and will remain 11/11 afterward.
If you're lucky enough to have 2 Giant Growth to cast and then activate his ability, he goes from 4/4 to 20/20 for the turn, and retains 14 tokens afterward (if you didn't just kill your opponent in one blow).
Combine with Crowned Ceratok or Nylea, God of the Hunt for Trample.
I think my favorite part of this card is the price it's going for, it makes it the perfect Hydra to play a playset of if you're trying to go for a budget Hydra deck. Most people sell this guy online for twenty cents for a near mint, it's crazy, and he's not really that bad either.
Yeah sure, 5 for a 4/4 is underwhelming, but once you've pumped it up twice, it ends up being a 16/16 for 12, then a 32/32 for 16 and so on, so the Power to Cost ratio isn't that bad. And, using Solidarity of Heroes first helps making his ability more cost-efficient.
He's not the greatest, but he's not bad and definitively affordable right now.

Lacking trample, this card has allowed Fling to find its way into my red/green deck.

So much fun at the pre-release...with all that mana.
Edit: Got this to 512/512 in a multiplayer game and snuck it past a Fog Bank when I top-decked Blood.

K so I'm new to magic. Can someone tell me exactly how heroes bane works?

Awesome card! Put this with Domri Rade and give Heroes Bane hexproof, trample, and double strike!

Allow me to say that this thing is terrifying. Thanks to Gyre Sage and Vorel of the Hull Clade I've gotten this behemoth up to power levels literally in the trillions. Multiplayer, but still. This thing WILL win you games at least in casual, so if you like big creatures this devil is for you.
