Flavor home run, and he actually seems decent for Limited if you can slap an aura or two on him.

Fly, on your way, like an eagle
Fly as high as the Sun

I would have liked a different card for Icarus, like maybe this:
Red 1

Instant

Target creature you control gains flying until end of turn, on your end step, sacrifice it

And then Heliod aimed his spear at the impertinent mortal...

There's also a bit of Bellerophon influence. Worth noting that the Sunchaser can actually fly above Heliod, unless the sun god has an Archetype of Imagination on his side.

It would seem the Auriok Sunchaser enjoys a much better standing with the sun god.

Man, I love the hubris. That's what MTG needs more of, hubris.

@Manite: I don't think Ikaros was actually crosshaired by Apollon. It was just a result of the wax giving out that close to a source of heat. I'm not really seeing Bellerophon, though; I thought he rode Pegasos up to the heights of Olympos because he had a grievance over the death of one of his children (which grievance he'd have been better of taking to the Moirae...).

Great flavor, great artwork!
Sadly unlikely to be more than a limited-filler.

Ah, what could have been. This is a nice name for a reference that I think a lot of people were waiting for. Unfortunately, WotC decided to slap together a Goblin Balloon Brigade with a few keywords instead of taking a little creative thought and following the lore. Honestly, the whole Theros block is beginning to feel like a bad version of Innistrad where WotC tries to coast by on familiar mythology and stories--without Innistrad's creativity.

Magic's first 2-mana flying haster! A nice take on old Utvara Scalper.

Wonderful flavor. However, it's a 1/1 creature that can't grow larger on its own and has no other purpose but to attack the player. And it's two mana. You're not going to build tempo fast enough if you play with this.

Ah, Icarus (or Daedalus, since this guy doesn't just get sacced or some other nonsense).
I love how the flavor and abilities just mesh.

For Standard, This with Madcap Skills comes to mind for RDW (mono red aggro). A 1/1 flyer might not be all that impressive, easily hit for kills spells and burn, but with madcap, your opp needs more than just 1 flyer to block, and 4 damage per turn is worth worrying about. Still easy to kill, but the threat might pull an opponents Hero's Downfall, Celestial Flare or similiar Kill spell on my 1/1 flyer with madcap skills rather than my Stormbreath Dragon a few turns later.

His style may be impetuous, but his defenses certainly aren't impregnable.

Step 1: Loyal Pegasus
Step 2: get this guy on the field.
Step 3: Bestow Noble Quarry on him.
Step 4: Wahaha!

Remember, if you need a chump blocker or need to set up a double block or whatever, you can make it clear that you are playing this on your second main phase and use it to block.

I think someone else already said this but I think the guy's bound to *** off heliod with his "higher than heliod" statement

Icarus should be a "Creature -- Human Idiot".
