This card gets 4 stars for the Phytohydra reference alone

This is what happens when the Simic start splicing Godzilla cells into plants, despite what the flavor text says.

This card should have had the flavor text ... "This one's a rescue." - Domri Rade

That's cool and all, but uhh... Sorcery speed? Where's the instant speed?
I know if they gave it instant speed, it'd be strictly better than Titanic Growth. But aren't these power boosts mostly used for combat tricks? I mean, when you give one of your creatures a power boost before combat, it allows your opponent to choose who they should really block or remove.
although it is nice they haven't forgotten about Phytohydra, but...

SORCERY. It's a sorcery. That's an important detail, you know.

This is not the phytohydra we wanted, wizards.

While I would have much preferred to have a new Phytohydra Plant creature, I'm glad they at least referenced them with this card. Eh.

it MUST to be a sorcery because you know, as an instant would be too much close to incinerate for 5 and that would be just insane
I really think this could see some play in modern infect decks. I know it is a sorcery, but that is a MASSIVE pump. Taking out half your opponent's life with one swing or forcing your opponent to sac a creature is really not a good position for the person on the other side of the board to be in for 2 mana.

It's kinda of hard to understand the hate for Monstrous Growth and not this, though in the current formate it can be very broken with double strike and such. +5/+5 for two is rather good, even if it isn't instant.

Pulled two of these at the prerelease. I got stuck with Dimir/Golgari, so I was pretty worried about playing BUG at first. I would draw one of these guys every single game, which is probably why I went up going 3-1. Every time I used them it was either on Golgari Decoy for board clear or on an evasive creature. On my last game of the day I played two of them on Metropolis Sprite and swang for lethal.

This card just made my legacy infect deck more common of a turn 2 ;)

This card is great!
I love the fact that it's a Sorcery and not an instant because it automatically makes things more interesting instead of the same old - oh, boom my creature gets +4/+4( or +3/+3) right at the last second.
When you play this card, your opponent actually has the opportunity to re-evaluate his/her situation. There's something unique in moments like that because it's not instantly beefing up your creature and killing whoever blocked it. Your opponent has time to let the feeling of unease settle in while they contemplate things.

A pretty aggressive pump. Instant speed is good and all, but sometimes raw stats are more important.
cast on creatures with trample n turn me sideways.

I feel it is crucial that this thing is a sorcery. An instant speed +5/+5 for 1G would have been pretty much as good as it can possibly be without stepping into broken territories. If that thing was a core set staple, Wizards has to be extremely careful not to print something better than it in expansions, much like back when we had Lightning Bolt in M10 / M11. Whereas if this thing becomes a core set staple, they still have the space to improve upon it so they can impress us (e.g. Ghor-Clan Rampager).

@night8883: Japan totally did a movie on that...Godzilla vs. Biollante...and it suspiciously looks like a phytohydra. :D

I think people looking for the instant speed are missing the point where this card should be combo'd with something that actually complements it, like an Evolution charm (for flying) or on an unblockable creature. Otherwise, I don't see how a 2 drop instant 5/5 wouldn't be considered broken.

This card is great! If you need power but low on mana, this card is great to have.

This gets some love from me for being the 5 damage green burn spell for that is was in Sealed. Not great overall though.

Instant speed would've been nice, but titanic growth is already legit
