Straight up mono black mill. This cards cost and stats actually make it pretty appealing to me in limited.

@lorendorky Yeah, the combination of both stats and abilities make him a good pick in limited.
Outside limited, one can mess with the grind mechanic, this one's not too badly costed in my opinion.

I feel this card has great synergy with any other creature that can get around blockers and Voidwalk as you can just exile this guy till the end step and then mill your opponent each turn.

If you have no lands in your library, this card and Undercity Informer can mill you out completely for just 4 mana. With Narcomoeba, Dread Return, and an appropriate creature to reanimate you can win on the first turn. I'm working on a deck with Lotus Petal, Chrome Mox, and other fast mana sources.

i love the idea of mono black mill. with a decent creature body (and tribe), i'm looking for it to put creatures into the graveyard for my chainer commander deck. i'll always play this over destroy the evidence.

A solid body with great tribe and a land mill stapled to it? Definitely useful. Also, T4 - T5 is when your opponent is looking to draw some land. This dumps it when they need it most.

Another great target for Conjurer's Closet

Voidwalk onto an unblockable, hexproof creature targeting this guy every turn equals a win in about 15 turns. Kinda bad way to represent Dimir, though.

Without including the milling, a 2/3 flyer for 3Black is good in limited. Black isn't the most abundant flyer colour, and if you ARE going to be milling, you'll need some solid blockers, so toughness is more important than power.

The obvious problem with mill in limited is that you're limited with your choices. You rarely can go straight mill without losing or getting close to it.

However, in the prerelease, milling proved to be more of a deterrent than a win-con. There have been so many times where someone milled someone's big mythic bomb. Since none of the guilds in Gatecrash benefit from graveyards other than Dimir, milling JUST to hope to get rid of something useful can do better than any plain-old Cancel.

I don't think this'll be a last pick or even late pick at any time. Some people may look past it, but

@Chamale

It has been done. Check this out:

0 lands. Ramp into this guy (or Undercity Informer with Dark Ritual and friends, discard your library, Dread Return some Narcomoebas targeting Angel of Glory's Rise and throw Azami, Lady of Scrolls and Laboratory Maniac onto the field, draw a card, win. Revel in your victory as your opponent scratches his head in confusion and says, "I just lost to what?"

Deserves more love than just 2 1/2 stars. It's a reliable card and a good staple for any Dimir build with critters like Consuming Aberration lurking about.

@Chamale

That's just crazy enough to work. Look into a Laboratory Maniac win if possible (A single Think Twice in the deck will let you draw out if you can rustle up the mana)

While I'm not a fan of the deck; he is the center of the deck archtype which has been mentioned in other comments, called "Oops", so he probably shouldn't be 2.5/5.

Considering it's a difficult to counter (when well built) archtype in legacy and modern, possibly even vintage; there should be some credit where credit is due. They double as mediocre charbelcher decks, requiring double-hate to effectively neuter.

A begrudging 4/5 for this..

An odd creature that's playable in Legacy but nowhere else.

Put no lands in your dredge deck then use him as a dread return target.

Love this guy! Solid 2/3 flying body, and can mill like crazy in the right circumstances.
