This is hosed by Street Sweeper, which is a pretty interesting flavor interaction.

First things first: this is the part of Reds color pie following in Bazaar Trader and Dangerous Wager's footsteps that many of us are dying to see. the art, passion and drama rather than just FIRE BURN DIE.
On to the card... like Mad Prophet before it this card is crippled by being one colorless mana too expensive. Hell this could have gotten away with being {2}{R} or {1}{R}{R}.

Nothing like some card disadvantage to go along with that tempo loss.

WOW I was ready for people to be excited for this card because: it's a card selection engine in limited! :D But thank goodness this is getting exactly as little respect as it deserves. o_O

Obviously they were hesitating a lot when making this card. Anywhere cheaper, and it will be better than Desolate Lighthouse by a long run (Sure, this needs another card to work in exchange of 3 mana per activation).
What hinders cards like Mad Prophet from being playable is due to them being pretty vulnerable. With the quality of land destruction we have these days, this is more resilient than those before it.
And no, I don't have a problem with a "weaker" looting. The "discard first" clause reminds me of spellshapers I like to play with.

Besides the fact that Rummaging Goblin is more vulnerable as a creature, I would run that over this any day of the week.

Pay 5 mana (have 6 lands). Use a card. Tap the land. Discard a card. Draw a card. Draw something good but can't play it. Why have this card in the first place?

This is where I don't understand wizard's line of thinking. Just compare underworld connections to this. I know that red doesn't get card advantage as often, but they could've put this at 4 mana and it would've been completely fine.

As horrible as this card is, it has possibly my favorite artwork in Gatecrash. I wish it were better.
Since this is 5 mana, you're probably going to play it onto a tapped land (unless you have somewhere around 10 lands), which makes this into a Rummaging Goblin. Would you play this over the Goblin? probably not, since:
A: This isn't a 1/1 goblin, able to be Arm's Dealer'd or Goblin Grenade'd. B: It actually costs 1 mana to get that card, since you're going to use a land (unless, for some goofy reason, you're playing it onto a Glacial Chasm). C: If, by any chance, they destroy that land, you're losing two-for-one.
I kind of miss the Merfolk Looter ability, because if I just want to mill the top card off my deck, I can. What if I have Niv-Mizzet in play? I can't draw if I have nothing in my hand.

BAD. 5 mana and you have to enchant a LAND.

5 mana, plus effectively 1 mana a turn, just for a looting effect? Ugh. This card is garbage. And here I was hoping that Street Sweeper would actually get some good land auras to sweep. 0.5/5.
Quite a ways too expensive. Proof that Wizards of the Coast hates experimenting in the safest color to do so in.

This is a terrible card and part of the reason I get upset at R&D sometimes. They seem like they would prefer to print terrible cards than do some extra work.
This card should have not seen print. It's not good even for the most casual player. If they are going to make an expensive card, make it worth while.

A few of you seem to be forgetting: Desolate Lighthouse is a land. It adds mana to your pool, it doesn't come in tapped, and you can play it at no cost. If you have 4 in your deck and never use their searching ability, you haven't lost much.
This thing is an enchantment. It competes with your non-lands for space in your deck. It could cost {1}{R} and I'd still be more likely to use a lighthouse.

The number of people bitching about this card is just staggering.
We get it. It's overcosted. You weren't going to use it anyway, it's an enchantment in Red. Deal with it.

Yeah clearly they went way too far on nerfing this. I've loved Rosewater's articles on the design of the RTR block, but the presence of this bogus piece of junk really undermines a lot of his claims about how pushed they were for space in this block.
If card slots for this block were in such high demand, why did we neglect flavorful (highly desired) reprints for unplayable jank garbage like this? There was no reason to make Tin Street Market THIS BAD considering what you shirked to put it in Gatecrash in the first place, guys :/
It's not as though the entire Enchant Land cycle was a waste of design space (see Debtor's Pulpit and Security Blockade) which only serves to re-emphasize just how pathetic this particular loser is (along with Urban Burgeoning and Chronic Flooding). Such a bummer that you not only chose to use so many slots on enchant lands (instead of cards the majority of your player base wanted), but also effectively double wasted the spots on such rubbish :(

For the first time, I missread a card: I thought that this costed and thought "nice!", but then I looked better at its cost... Ugh! Really? why ? Maybe even a cost of would have saved it. Or maybe with a higher activation cost, something like , , Discard... I understood that Red shouldn't have looting effect at cheap, but, but... Oh well...

Designed for games where the board's stalled out and going long to give you an edge. Obviously it's complete trash if either side is aggro, but this is a card designed to get you to your bomb faster in a long game.

i ant this effect soooooooo badly! why does it cost so much?
when are we going to get out "goblin looter" , as a 1/1 for 2 with the red looking ability?

Wow, in the same block as Underworld Connections, it basically costs six mana to use this ability once, if you got to six mana in red, you did it wrong
Also, by the time you cast this, if your in Mono-Red, you almost certainly wont have anything to discard to it anyway
