Versatile card, big enough body to hold off any early threats (particularly useful with unleash), also capable of killing creatures much larger than it or dealing considerable damage if your opponent has a slow start. Solid 2 drop.

That... That is a really good base PT for mono-blue to have... The ability is just wicked.

RU decks tend to be combo and damage based so having a creature with such good toughness for its cost early game and the possibility to swing for a lot later game makes this looklike a sleeper common to me.

Pros like me really like this card and weirds in general. I have never seen a weird that I didn't like.

I'm not entirely sure how this is Red other than the name/artwork, considering giving creatures +1/-1 is generally a Blue ability. However, a 1/4 for 2CMC is not bad--and not just for Limited, but for Pauper too. I'm looking forward to adding this to my Riverfall Mimic deck.

@Eternal_Blue: You don't seem to remember Flowstone, do you?

I don't blame you. Anyways, yet another Weird to add to the pile of interesting and well designed cards. 1/4 is a great base P/T, and the ability to convert it into damage if one were to make it unblockable (Teleportal, anyone?) combined with it's incredible flexibility make it rather appealing. Shame the switching requires so much mana to be usable, though.

turn 2... i drop a 1/4 blocker, go 'head....

turn 3... still nothing on the board? i swing for 4.

random turn: i turn him into a 2/3 and block your generic 2/2 whatever, or kill your toughness 4 guy.

great utility card

Super great for limited; Blocks centaurs all day and kills random bears.

Probably the best common for Izzet in limited.

i played prerelease with izzet and splashed black. lost my first game and I looked through my cards again. I saw this guy, took out something terrible that didn't work that game, and stuck him in.

Finished 3-1. Every game I drew him early I won, because his 4 toughness at only 2 mana allowed me to stabilize from early threats (and there are a surprising amount of 1-3 power creatures). In one game my opponent got mana flooded when I dropped him early, then I killed his creatures and this finished him.

unlike most +1/-1 breath creatures, this is probably one of the best.

Certainly better than Viashino Slasher.

Amazing Limited Card. I love drafting these things.

Rather large for its casting cost and able to deal a bit more damage with mana spent. Better than it looks - neither red nor blue tend to get creatures this well-priced, and this thing can go in either color deck, or both.

Honestly, I like this guy a lot, even for standard.

With Aggro strategies becoming more and more popular, this guy as a 1/4 for two CMC gives any mid-range or control deck a way to survive (and kill) Gravecrawler and diregraf ghoul. Also it acts as a good constant blocker against Geralf's Messenger without having to kill the thing and trigger undying. Further it blocks centaurs and other Selysnia tokens. All in all I think this is a solid durdle card.

As for offense, it does provide some early game damage out put if your opponent is running low, and will win a race in certain circumstances.

A nice replacement forCalcite Snapper. It's cheaper and its ability is more versatile, however, I'd still pick up the Turtle instead because of its shroud. Soon we're getting Nivix Cyclops and that one looks even better.

Nice little "wall" to endure the first assoult of aggro decks, and can survive a lot of red board sweeps, like Pyroclasm, Volcanic Fallout, Slagstorm, so you can block with this and, after your opponent build quite an army to pass thought this Weird, you can sweep without losing your "wall". In some occasion, you could even attack with this, and deliver some damages...
So:
-can block and survive and/or kill the attacker
-can attack for 4
-can survive most common damage-based board sweepers
-it's a Weird!

I waited for so long for such efficient creature in {R/U}. I think it should deserve a little more love, even for constructed...

No one really paid attention to this guy, and I never did either. Suddenly I felt the urge to put 4 of these in both my blue devotion deck and my red devotion deck.

Plays into Devotion mechanic for Thassa and Purphoros and Master of Waves, survives AND curves into Anger of the Gods, behaves like a derpy miniature Morphling. I was joking with my roommate on the validity of this card in the rotation, and it turned out to fill a niche and people started building with it. We were all "WTF?"

Show of hands, who thought this guy would actually be relevant?

That's what I thought. Completely out of the blue, but he's one of the better creatures in Standard. And a common, at that!

So many artifacts in standard that make this guy a force to be feared. My favorite is Accorder's Shield for the three extra toughness to play with and that wonderful vigilance ability.
