But.. but but, I was just standing on this Ravnica street corner when I decided to slice a pedestrain to bits with my 18 Rakdos arm blades... is that a crime!?

It's a cheap card with a strong ability and it is a soldier as well. I like this card and that says a lot coming from me because I am a pro.

It's not that bad. But, on turn two, your opponent might often not have anything in play that you can detain.

Eh, not sure why it couldn't have been a 2/2, but I'm not complaining. Detain gives a cheap creature like this value even if he's cast later in the game. Honestly, if you put him out too soon, there probably won't be much for him to hit anyway. Well... mana dorks, I suppose.

I like this card. It is a 2 drop that makes stuff lategame. And that's very good for a common!

This is basically a 2-drop 2/1 that allows you to get in an early attack without worrying about holding back to block. It actually reminds me a lot of the red creature, Goblin Shortcutter, only a lot more versatile. So it'll see play in Limited certainly, perhaps a small amount in Standard, and in Pauper? We'll see if White Weenie can make room for it.

Would you like a 2/1 or a card with your detain?

The big draw here is that it's a useful early drop (stops early blockers and can take some of the pressure out of an aggro matchup, has 2 power and so contributes reasonably to your offense) that isn't a dead draw late game (still detains!)

Early game you can detain and attack.. later game.. bounce it to let the heavy hitters through and he can sit back and chump block.

4 please!

Solid - a 2/1 for two with a nice comes into play ability.

I don't know why she's not scored higher... she's a second turn detain against Vexing Devil or other irritating one-drops, and the 2/1 isn't horrible.

Probably the best of all the "detain" cards. Most of the other stuff is too overcosted for nondraft formats.

I like you Wayne Reynolds, so I'm saying this because I care. But you really need to step back from the Rob Liefeld zone with this one here.

Solid early game drop with detain, or late game to disable something large. There's a good place for this in human decks and decks trying to use a lot of detain. Also handy pick in draft, it's a great common.

Halt! You've violated the law!

@Mowagh: Why would you ever want to let Vexing Dexil live turn one if you aren't going to just kill it on your turn? Seems like a really bad startergy. This is mostly going to be played in limited.

An interesting comparison can be made to Inaction Injuntion. Generally speaking, aggresive decks will prefer this, while controll decks will like the card draw, and midrange could justify either (or both).

Not a game changer, but in my Control U/W standard deck he gives me the time and peace of mind to get those game changers out! He's kept me from getting bloodied early, middle, and late in games. My buddies hate when he comes out, not because he's a brute, but because he opens the door for my brutes to come in and uppercut them! Use in conjunction with, Inaction Injunction, and Dramatic Rescue and watch for flying debris from your opponent!

Annoying to play against when using scavenge or unleash decks. Curse of Death's Hold keeps it off the battlefield, but be sure to have a Golgari Charm handy to also get rid of Oblivion Rings the opponent will cast on your curse.

Azorious decks are a natural counter to aggro, but I think they will also shine at aggro themselves when combined with Boros. Don't underestimate Detain.

A decent body with a decent ability. For one blue mana more, you can pick up her good friend Lyev Skykight and get a better power, flying and the ability to detain a nonland permanent. 3.5/5

A 2/1 creature for 2, he locks down a creature for a turn, and he's a common. White weenie on a power trip.

Does this card detain a card forever? or just one turn?
also if this card does detain a card forever what happens with the opponents card when he destroys az arrester?

@Blueacres: It clearly says 'Until your next turn'... read the card maybe?

detain mechanic is actually pretty decent (for those who wonder how it would play in game)
as for arrester 3/5 - if only he was a bear :(

In the same vein as Man-o'-War, but in white and for one less CMC. Gets you another critter on the board AND potentially shuts down someone's keystone creature for a while. What's not to like?

I'm not going to make special room for it, but in the right white deck I'd run it, especially in Limited.

With Lightning Mauler and Boros Elite, detain their best blocker to help get some Battalion action going?

Love that goblin art.

Are they on the opposite side of the bridge shown in Axebane Stag?

@ lorendorky: Arresting a poor goblin just for standing on a street is awful...
What does this card tells you..?
All cops are bastards..
