in the early days of magic, the card de***ion stated that you deal the damage. these days, the damage source always comes from the accordant card. yet damage prevention is still done by the player. this card nicely shows this contrast.

@Mode: Interesting. Anyway, not a bad card. A 2/2 for 2cmc, with useful creature types, plus some abilities.

Possibly the most supported tribe in Red and White in one card that's both colors? Um, yes? Plus the abilities are crazy useful, I wish this guy had been reprinted in Ravnica with new art along with his awesome (also Goblin Soldier) little bro Boros Recruit.
This is my favorite card of all time. It practically runs my casual boros deck along with Stormblood Beserker It works wonders when comboed with Squee's Embrace

@TheJigglyyat Yeah, it usually kills at least two elves a game. :)

This is actually a sort of tragic card. The card is the Goblin in the picture, but there are three humans around him. Both of his abilities result in him sacrificing himself. Imagine if they knew they could only use him if he were to die in battle?

Part of an interesting cycle of 2-mana enemy color gold common creatures in Apocalypse:
Invasion, the first expansion in the block, had a cycle of 2-mana friendly color gold common creatures, all of which had protection from their shared enemy color:
As for this card itself, it is highly playable and has two of the most supported creature types in Boros colors, which have enjoyed their fair share of success. The fact that he can blow himself up to Shock you is relevant if you get into awkward situations where attacking into the enemy is ill-advised (for example, if the opponent's blockers have lifelink, or you can't break through a line of tokens and need that damage desperately). The second ability, while significantly less aggressive, can help keep you alive as well.
That said, though, this was much better pre-M10, when you could attack or block, and with damage on the stack, use one of the abilities. This made for some odd situations where you had your cake, and ate it too. Still a great card though, and I would have been really happy to see it reprinted with a Boros watermark.

The girl and the guy on the left side of the picture. Compare the size of their hands.

That, folks, is a quintessential man-hand. Wowee.
Maybe it's just a really tall dwarf
