Rage is this guy getting killed between the discard and the bolt.
But that kind of tension is healthy for the game, so take that as you will.

Don't pay for your effects, they automatically happen with this dude!

This fellow could be good with Glissa, The Traitor.

Am I the only one that thinks that of all the Masticore's, this one is the worst? I mean sure his damage happens automatically, but you can only target creature's with it. You can only deal damage once per turn, he doesn't regenerate, and also of all the Masticore's he is the most expensive to play. I like having control over my Masticore's damage. That way I can sweep the field when I need to, or go in for the kill when I want him to.

Draw step? You usualy see upkeep. I guess its because this is a reprint of an older card.

@Rezzy64: Are you, like, clinically stupid or something? Look at the original Masticore's second ability!

About the card: Everytime I see this, I like it more and more. A 5/5 first strike in any color is great, and the damage provides a lot of free card advantage. The discard is a major drawback; however, with flashback and such, it can be helpful! Overall, a great card, but not stupidly overpowered like certain other 5/5 first strikers for five

Ever since I got this in the Duel Deck, I've used him in quite a few decks.

Its not that necessary to even combo him with madness or draw. Normally I can discard to keep him alive a few turns and the lightning bolt a turn is fun.

You can also be more reckless with him then other effect cards because opponent's often try keep him alive to keep you discarding and don't want to waste a 5/* first strike, 6/6 or larger to kill him when he attacks.

Really good with heartless summoning. Turn 3 4/4 first strike that comes out early enough you always have a card to discard so you can keep raining down bolts.

I cannot believe I just bought 4 copies of this card for less than £3 ($4.50)! Its got fantastic potential. Graveborn especially. And also, this would adds extra damage to burn decks...I like this card a lot.

The best masticore of the three. Lower maintenance and harder hitter than pappy or junior.

Also, Gibbering Descent.

Is that a 5/5. . . that craps Lightning Bolts?

5 power with first strike is nothing to sniff at. So what if you can't target players with his ability? I use it to clear the way for him to just smash in. 3 damage on a creature plus first strike means you can take down an 8/8 without trading. We almost never get a deal that good on a colorless creature. I run him with Glissa, The Traitor which makes his discard either a way to just pitch lands I no longer need because 5 is the end of my curve or just get my artifact back.

Difficult to judge. He's obviously a powerhouse due to the First Strike and the lightning bolts are brutal.

It depends on the deck whether this or another Masticore will treat you well. The others have regenerate, which is a big deal; however, they'll often actually need it where as this guy will take a 5+/6+ blocker that you *didn't* bolt to stop him; so it's hard to say. The others support a strategy of dumping all your mana into them; but it's supposed to be fine since you're losing cards. This guy doesn't give you a use for your mana, but is efficient without it.

I imagine that this is the best tournament wise, with the others also being quite dangerous.

I'm thinking he might have a place in my Skaab Ruinator deck or any deck you need to keep your graveyard fuelled with cards. Why not make his discarding advantageous?

Did they design his ability specifically to combo with Eon Hub, putting the good part in your draw phase and the bad part in your upkeep?

that's all subjective. i'd rather it be the other way and use it with paradox haze and psychic possession.
