Although typically Grim monolith is better, I prefer this over it for it's cheaper self untap cost. At 3 colourless it can untap itself, so if your voltaic key need to untap other things, well, it's cheaper than the Grim Monolith. And yes, Wake Thrashers goes infinite with this guy.

Commenting on Every Card this Weekend! ^_^ Alpha has turned out to be a joy to read all over again and comment on. Actually have had something interesting to say on every card so far!
The Comment view is not as good as going back a page to see the Oracle Text for it. Click on it's picture. (Just helping out people that might be VERY new to Gatherer mechanics) Then you will probably see the loopholes a LOT easier! :D
Just find anyway to reduce the price of untapping it to less than 3, and boom! it taps to make {3}, it untaps for less than {3} and maybe {0}, and it becomes an infinite mana machine!

Many easy ways to cheat this one, from Power Artifact, Clock of Omens, Unwinding Clock or the classic Voltaic Key. Works admirably though Grim Monolith will be preferred by a lot of decks for the lower CMC.
