If you're going for pure life gain, this works very well in a Slide deck. It's better than Teroh's Faithful in that it costs half as much and still nets you 4 life. Slide him in and out and you'll gain a lot of life very quickly.

If life gain sucked baneslayer angel would be half its price. It depends on where the life gain is coming from, what it comes with, and how much you pay for it. This card is pretty solid as a 2 drop common. Run these to *** off red mages.

This alone may inspire me to run a Kor deck...

I tried this as a singleton in an Astral Slide deck and he's pretty damn good.
Can be played with Erratic Portal, if you have nothing better to spend three mana on.

This thing is amazing!!! It is very aggressive for its cost, has a relevant creature type (Kor), AND has the added bonus of gaining you a good amount of life. When you give it equipment, it really shines! And, it's a common!!!!!

The name, art, effect and flavour text all fit together very well. Good design. I love cards like this one.

Good card.
Lifegain is not bad, except on its own. On its own, lifegain does nothing but stall the game for a few turns. You don't win when you reach a certain life total (barring other card effects), and the threats that are damaging you are still around if you just gain life. Now, attach a creature or some other useful effect on to lifegain, and you have a winner. Lifelink is an example of that.

It may be quite a fallback to put an etb or keyword on a goblin piker, but it really does make for some cards that feel very right. What I like about this one is, contrary to what another user commented, it's not a wall. It's not buying time for a grindy control deck, it's using white's signature life-gain to push equipment-weenies through faster aggro decks. If I can find one I want to try it out in my flicker deck >.>

Compare to Venerable Monk.
Wizards Employee: "Life gain is bad? I got an idea, let's just crank the numbers to ridiculously high!"
Yeah, I'm sure this will make for complex and exhilarating gameplay.
And this could have been the white wall, whereas wall of Omen should have been a non-wall creature with defender instead (maybe a cleric => oracle).
