The flavour of this card:
Cartographer: I think I shall map the northern peaks today.
Aide: But sir...didn't that entire range fall into a Sinkhole?
Cartographer: Er...well...
Aide: Can't we ever map something that HASN'T been decimated?
Cartographer: Sinkhole, you say? I think you should go scout the location for me.

Also- 2/2 body. Every mapmaker is trained for combat.

I would have liked to have seen this reprinted in Zendikar. Would have been useful with the fetches.

Good with fetchlands and Harrow.

In most cases Tilling Treefolk is much better.

I find it funny to have a cartographer in an expansion named "Exodus."

I also lol'd at the "Townsfolk."

This can be an extra Ice Storm when used with Strip Mine or Wasteland. Quite powerful, with a lot of practical uses for fetchlands, as well as those that sacrifice for their effects.

@TDL: Don't forget that this flavor text fits right in with Zendikar.

Apparently, one can only make maps for places that have already been discovered but assumed to be gone forever because some rocks fell on them.
