Is it just me, or is this really strong? 2/1 AND a solid ability... in black??? What ever happened to Krovikan Scoundrel?

Krovikan Scoundrel? What ever happened to Nantuko Shade? It's unreliable lifegain, and, at best, it gives you 2 life when it dies.

You keep on pushing creatures, Wizards... wonder where will that policy lead us. Me, I'm worried to say the least.

nantuko shade? Please, let's keep comparing rares to commons.

May I alter your statement? I'd rather say let's keep comparing {{1B}} to {{BB}}.

Is the artists' name seriously Ash Wood? That's awesome!

Anyways, this isn't as bad in the right kind of deck, right now I'm building a deck that doesn't mind killing itself, and this'll work great.

Almost seems like a WB card.

this is stupid i mean she can give you 2 life and then......she dies, the key is maybe in unholy strenght.....and i`m just thinking that the flavor on unholy aura says that the second child will seek power in the night,so ...it`s a child of night,is it just me or there is something hire

Good for a Vampire deck with Vampire Nocturnus and other black pumping creatures like Ascendant Evincar... meh for everything else.

It's a reprint of a Hecatomb Card! http://www.wizards.com/hecatomb/ht_autocard.asp?name=night_child

Okay, seriously, a 2/1 for 2 with lifelink is a solid card and you could so much worse in black.

I think the card is fitting and not pushing too many limits... I can see a vamp lifelinking and the mana is competely negotiable all though BB is more appropriate...

Not as good as Vampire nighthawk, but still a solid card

its a good rusher to get ahead in life by alot and it forces the opponent to block it or else the life gain and loss becomes alot bigger and alot more hard to win

This card is better than it looks. Not bad at all for an early game creature.

Now if they'd only make some White Angels that cost between 1-4 mana as they have vampires so one could do White Angel decks now that black vampire decks are possible...

I wish they could have made it's mana cost duel black & a 2/2 lifelink... But whateva; yeah a nice card but I find myself using the Gatekeeper of malakir over her. I find the gatekeeper and Nighthawk are just nasty!!
Child of Night is GREAT for it's cost no doubt though! Just how qucikly/easily she takes leathal damage as a two drop.....
Now if the ability was 'death touch', I wouldn't say a word lol.

Put simply, I don't see a real purpose for this card. It's likely to be my own way of playing but by herself she doesn't really do much. I never have seen much of a purpose for life link and I don't much favor creatures with glass jaws like these.

Unless she is powered up, and I'm sort of bad at that sort of thing, she won't have any real purpose at all other than to keep you oppenent from attacing which is done much better with a Gatekeeper of Malakir, a Hand of Cruelty, or better still, a black knight all of which, for some strange reason have the same number of *s as this card. Even the ravinca guildmages would have done better than this card.

base rating: ***
Disproportionate manna to stats: -**
Lifelink: +*

final: **

My only advice for using this card is that it need more toughness to be useful. If only it were a 2/2

Vampire Hexmage will always be the better two drop for black-vamp decks.

Very solid card, ESPECIALLY for a common (how are people seriously not getting that point?).

I played 4 of this, Nighthawk, Hideous End, and others in a Pestilence deck. Beat face early game to unbalance the life totals and then Pestilenced the hell out of everything.

This lovely lady is in Magic 2011, together with new lord Captivating Vampire and sexy Barony Vampire. And maybe one or two more, but these three are the only vamps previewed so far.

Much Homage Child of Night! I would enjoy a foil playset of these!

Still running a full playset in my mono black life-gain deck, she's sooo good! People WILL use their removal on these girls... =P 4.5/5!!!

@Abysalmanzero
Its hard imagining an angel being besting in combat by a runeclaw bear, so they will always be mid-late range creatures.
