rorix is as good-he's a 6/5 and i'm sure the hellkite's ability makes up for power only some of the time
point is that they're both good but in different ways

It's cool that the ability goes off the turn after it comes into play, but it's still way too expensive. I'd rather cast spells that turn.
Still, it's a 5/5 hasted flyer for 6 and that's awesome in itself. Rorix Bladewing's extra power was almost overkill, and the charger has the ability. I just don't think people will be using the ability at all.

Ack. Just needed the extra ability so it would compare to Rorix, huh? I guess a 6 mana 5/5 flying haste is simply not good enough.
Edit: This is a sarcastic commentary on the power creep. It shouldn't need to be comparable to the amazing clas sics in order to be rare - or be even better(looking at Baneslayer). I guess I was unclear.

A 5/5/ hasty flier for 6cmc is pretty good. While the ability is costly ( 1 more mana than Relentless Assault) making it unlikely you'll be able to use it right away, it still makes this guy a target.

this isnt a bad card, and its ability will be played more often then you think, you just need explorer's scope, a common equipment, it will flood your field with land and soon you will have enough, and by turn 6 when you can play this guy normally, you want to have an army, and then turn 7, it is pain time with a double swing punch to the face
and if you think of it like flameburst dragon's ability, it is quite good, you will get at least 5 swinging again, then whatever ground troops you have,even their strongest defenders will be in trouble from such a large hit

Well consider playing this in a deck where creatures can give you 5RR and you can attack infinite times (provided the dragon stays alive). :)
Maybe Elvish Piper it to play, attack and pay 7 mana with other elves and untap everyone (after that maybe put some more dragons down with the untapped piper!) :D

This is such a huge timmy card. Hardly ever in tournament play , even in a deck that had mana acceleration enough for this to go off turn 5 did i get to stay alive or keep this card long enough to activate it's ability. You're better off throwing in some better resistance, like say A siege gang commander if you're running red, than to waste your time with this guy. He's just not a very smart choice in competetive play.
Magasul: helllkite charger only untaps attacking creatures. If you tapped your elves for mana they would all stay tapped.

I'd rather play Savage Beating over the Charger's ability. For almost the same cost (), you untap ALL your creatures (Not just attackers), plus all your creatures gain double strike.

That ability is pretty darned expensive, though really awesome at the same time. Can attack then untap everything to get around blockers in the second combat phase. It seems like it needs to end a game though, rather than be played every turn, since the mana drawback would catch up to you eventually. Could defintley see a game win with broodmate dragons and this hellkite charger though, attack with all, kill all blockers, then attack again for 21.
Nature's will would just be insane with this card if you could ever get both into play. Garruk wildspeaker also, because he would both help with the mana cost, but if you ever got his ultimate going and your charger at the same time you get a double over run in one turn.

I think in a limited format, this guy is pretty incredible. Most of the comments make it sound like you MUST pay for his ability and him on the same turn... hardly. As a 5/5, he is tough enough to manage for a turn, and since he is hasted your're going to get one shot in at the bare minimum.
Not a massive game winner, but a very tougb flyer with a potentially game-ending ability on the turn after he hits the table.

This guy rocks, won me some games in booster-draft. Didn't get to use his extra ability though, 5/5, flying, haste was usually enough. But this plus Rampaging Baloth with lots of landfall triggers is hilarious:D

Excellent card. One of the best in my deck. I have two of these in my Red/Blue deck and always seem to come out on top when these are played. The extra ability IS icing, but very good icing. I've been able to use the ability in play, and my opponent isn't even around after I activate the ability only once.

With the new Bear Umbra coming out for Eldrazi... If you have 10 mana handy, you can cast the hasty dragon, put Bear Umbra on it and get infinite attacking phases. The only way the opponent can stop you is if they bounce the Dragon or destroy it in response to the Umbra being cast. If they destroy it as it attacks, you still get to attack again since the Umbra protects it once.
Looks like a fun combo to play :P

saved my butt, Opponent had 8 life and was beatin down on me i ouldn't have lasted more than a coupl e turns, topdecked the charger hit him for 5 then topdecked a puncture blast. Fun times.

Good stats, good keyword abilities, sweet triggered ability, and a reasonable cost. In EDH, I like to use him to give emrakul annihilator 12. When you get up to 15 mana, 3 attacks per turn is pretty sweet.

Works just great with Bear Umbra. If you don't get combat steps for free you can at least get a few for real cheap. If you're willing to look outside standard use Dolmen Gate to keep the assault going.
