It's just SO DULL. Yeah, it's good once you have it in play, but it is possibly the least exciting card ever printed.

you're mind is limited combine this with the maelstrom archangel and this guy becomes a reletively powerful bamf, returning cards from your graveyard and allowing you to play them strait up without their costs. just looking at his stats and effect, he can do damage to an opponent without attacking them directly with trample. he can also be a decent blocker, what with the trample effect, and when that happens BAM, you use his effect

@ brimandvormay, I think you misread, they return to your hand, not to play, otherwise i'd agree. As it stands now a 6/6 trampler that is most likely going to return cards from your grave to your hand if it attacks, yeah, that aint half bad...
But it's not game winning...
For 7 mana, whatever I play had better Give me the game on a silver platter.. this won't do that for me, especially not with all the "die now" cards floating about...

There's better cards for 7 mana. Enough said.

The ruling on this card said that if it was dealt lethal dmg at the same time it dealt combat dmg, that you could target it with it's own ability. That's pretty nice, considering that it's a 6/6, then you could keep attacking with the Wurm and if you kill creatures in the process, it's progress plus getting a card back to your hand

I love this card. I just take my best guy in my graveyard and put it into play. Plus I have two of this card

This card is great, just not crazy about the mana cost. he's great if you want to recycle your Terminates or Terrors which helps elminate speed bumps when hes attacking. Makes for a killer combo if you're playing him on the field at the same time as Magus of the Abyss and Sek'Kuar, Deathkeeper because you can build up an army of graveborn tokens and recycle your creature while eliminating your opponents defense.

I think this has some great synergy with all of those old school wurms that have madness, or sorceries that make wurm tokens.

To be fair, if you use it to return a lock out card it can end the game, on the flip side it's not so good if its just a reoccuring eternal witness that only works when it damages the enemy.
Use with torrent of souls for 8/6 haste trampler if it dies, and cycle between charnelhoard wurm and the sorcery to get a reoccuring 6/6 that has to be exiled.

@zevilmustache: You've clearly never been introduced to Fugitive Wizard.
Note that it says "deals damage". So, if you really want, you could put a Fire Whip or something on it.

@ScissorsLizard i was just about to say that, but with gray ogre or something plus i think you are the only person to comment on the fact that i can give him a pinger and he goes to town on your graveyard.
also i find that he works pretty well in reanimator decks because he can get you back the 1-2 drop reanimation spell you just dropped. picture this:
t1 : swamp, dark ritual, buirid alive (Charnelhoard Wurm, Reya Dawnbringer, and something else) t2: swamp, exhume=Reya Dawnbringer, blah blah blah anyways, you can just get back the buried alive for fuel for Reya, or if they blast her just get the exhume back and pop her back out(unless she was RFG'd of course)
and yes i know there are way better reanimator combos and targets, but reanimator is very boring to play.... no one wants to play you if ever game you are exhuming Iona on the first turn -.- so i try to have fun with new combos that no one really would think about
also i love that fact that you don't have to exile the card after playing it again

I like this guy. But also: he turned out to be worse when I actually play him, than on paper. Like, that wurm has to connect several times to be really great. And if you manage to bash your opponent with a 6/6 creature several times, then you about won anyway. So, when I played this thing, it was most of the time just a "win more" card.
Assault Strobe + Elvish Piper. Be more creative. There are heaps of ways to get around 7 mana cost, and more than just double strike to make his positive effect better.

This guy IS a game winner. -Soul's Fire combo, as mentioned -Cruel Ultimatum every turn with this guy
The other thing is as a side note, people need to stop caring about mana costs once they're above 6ish. They stop being "playable" at 5ish if you're not using: -a ramp -an alternate cost -blah
I mean, you CAN play him for 7, but you'll be doing it turn 5ish. Turn six you swing, cast a cruel ultimatum. If they don't give up. Do it again. Same mana cost; same colors. Seems like a fine idea.
In eternal formats I'd imagine you'd piper him into play, or tooth and nail, or any number of other "free creature" cards. If it's 7 mana, the idea is probably not to cast him but to cheat him in. if you do that, he's just as lethal as Darksteel or similar.

Clearly powerful card for multiplayer formats, where your resources must extend ad infinitum rather than quickly playing out your hand of bolts or counterspells and running out of fuel.

I love this guy. I have a fairly straightforward beatdown deck (same colours as the Wurm here) and I use this guy to get some of my more useful cards back. One of my main strategies is to play Prized Unicorn, give him Gorgon's Flail (+1/+1 and deathtouch), and then attack (and maybe power him up with Giant Growth). Wipe out the opposing creatures, attack with Charnelhoard Wurm, get Prized Unicorn back, and repeat. He's slightly expensive, but I don't see why seven mana has to be a gamewinner so that doesn't bother me in the least. His effect makes up for it, I think.
EDIT: You ever take a look at opinions you held years ago, and wonder what you were thinking? Finding this comment has been one of those moments for me.

I thought it was a pretty fun creature, mildly abusable but ultimately just very solid more than anything.
Then I saw the ruling saying it could revive itself and that's sealed the deal.

so its a 6/6 jund creature with trample that all it has to do is hit someone and it revives for free im in.

I don't see why this is rated so low for what it is. A 6/6 trample for seven mana isn't the best admittedly, but its ability is what makes it such a beast. Returning any card from your graveyard to your hand AND dealing a bunch of damage is great. Maybe not the best for modern, but kicks bum in edh or similar formats.
