is a great 2/1 flying deathtouch for black/blue. Goes great with Parasitic Strix

I absolutely love this card, among the high cost artifact creatures in this block this is a good early attack and always a blocker. My esper deck has 4

The 2/1 stats are great for getting in early beats, and most of the time it is unblockable. This guy acts as a removal sink as well, since he's annoying to deal with otherwise.

Woohoo! A common that can kill Baneslayer Angel... if you give it first strike. Still a good card, haha.

Probably my favorite common from shards. Makes U/B that much more awesome.

This is a strong creature for any U/B deck. At a CC of just 2, it gives you a strong creature on both offense and defense.
Toss him and the Esper Stormblade into a deck together for an aerial assault force that can dish out some damage.

Plays aggro and defense, kind of like Jund stand-bys Putrid Leech and Sprouting Thrinax. Unfortunately, significantly less staying power, and many of the bigger creatures you might hope to kill are effectively immune to Strix's deathtouch-Baneslayer Angel, Gideon Jura etc. Foiled by a single soldier or bird token. Still, he's only CC 2...
Er... I over parenthize things... Gotta stay on topic... :/
But yeah, giving it some added defence forces gives it some staying power, and a flying deathtoucher for 2 can only even be rivaled by something else like a flying lifelink deathtouch for 3 (Vampire Nighthawk) or a first striker with shroud for 2 (the afformentioned Deft Duelist).
A cool card to use, lots of flavor IMO. And being common certainly helps it's cause, not to mention its solid place in just about any artifact deck. Wonderful deterrent to anything without first strike if your foe values their creatures. With flying and deathtouch, it's a simple matter to smack your opponent around for quite a while before they shore up some defence, too. Also, love the surreal artwork, can't forget that; they certainly made it look... Wait, it won't let me say badass will it... ah well, deserves a five.

Baleful Strix will likely replace this card in any deck that was running it, since the card draw is worth 1 point of power, but ....... Birds. It's do-able.

That card is only legal in legacy, vintage, and planechase. I dont doubt it sees play in legacy, but that is a super expensive format with the alpha land cycle being legal.
Of course it is useable in kitchen table casual, but who has 80 dollars to shell out on a playset of uncommon for kitchen table casual?

Turn 2: Tidehollow Strix
Turn 3: Equipt
Turn 4: Laugh
Turn 5: Mind Funeral
Lots of possibilities, and goes great in my blue mill deck that splashes black (for Tidehollow Strix, Mind Funeral, Glimpse the Unthinkable, et cetera) and white (for Path to Exiled Archive Trap fun, Wall of Denial stalling, Deft Duelist, et cetera).
