Single card exiling simply isn't enough. 1/1 Fliers that can't be used on turn one? I can see the resemblance at the Extirpate, but I'd question what deck could actually use these at all - even considering limited. I mean it looks decent considering fantasy situations, but in reality, this is a dead card to often, and when it isn't, it simply doesn't do anything significant enough to be worth a card slot.

@AlphaNumerical:
This hoses the retrace mechanic in Eventide.
And to get a 1/1 flyer for one mana at instant speed isn't that bad, even if it doesn't function on the first turn in most cases.

I use this card in a black/blue Polymorph deck. It's a cheap way to get a creature out without requiring a creature in the deck other than Progenitus. Otherwise, it's not a great card but it can be useful with a Edge of Divinity

It says you can choose any graveyard BUT then it does not specify under whose control the token comes in.

Strictly better than Funeral Pyre.

1/1 flyer for 1. With flash. And a useful 'comes into play' effect. In black.

This is a Suntail Hawk with Flash, which can be played in two colors. It can't be played on your first turn, but it's so flexible and cheap, plus it has a nice bonus. I love it.

Would this be able to exile Emrakul, The Aeons Torn before it's graveyard shuffling effect triggers?

Not sure what AlphaNumerical was thinking. This card has nice combos within its own set with Deathbringer Liege and Voracious Hatchling. With the liege, you kill something, exile a card from a graveyard, and get a 1/1 with flying for 1. The much less effective combo with the hatchling just removes 2 of the counters, which is quite useful, if you didn't know.

Also, those who recall Teysa, Orzhov Scion, this can be used to fuel her first ability. With three of these and her alone, you exile 3 cards from a graveyard, and exile one from the battlefield. Albeit it you won't have 3 at once, just having that slight extra boost would always be nice.

@Laurelle

Hopefully the splice mechanic will be revisited sometime soon, and in a less parasitic form. It has loads of design space: splice onto creature, splice onto equipment, splice onto instant/sorcery, splice onto activated ability, splice onto land (!), splice onto wizard/other tribal, etc.

This is actually really good against Snapcaster Mage as it also trades with him, so it warrants at least a sideboard slot in decks that are running the colours in Modern, in my opinion.

Could be a great response to snapcaster mage in modern. Not only can you respond to the snapcaster trigger, exiling the card they target, you also get a 1/1 which essentially negates the snapcaster in terms of board advantage.

The best part though is that it's not only good as a graveyard hate card. It also has the added versatility of simply being an efficient creature.

On another note the flavor and name are also pretty cool.

@AXER - Then it comes into play under the control of the person who played the spell. If it put it into play under the control of the owner of the graveyard that the card was pulled from, the card would specify that.

@Deathdark - 3 of these + Teysa, Orzhov Scion lets you exhile TWO creatures from the table top.

Sack three white creatures (that are also black) = exile target creature and get +3 all-white spirits. No endless cycle, but pretty sweet.

Easily played at end of your opponents first turn with arid mesa.
