This would be great with "Open the Vaults." (Especially if you are playing Esper, though this would be tough for mana curve, or an Artifact deck.) You play this, gain a whole bunch of life, and revive all of your artifacts and enchantments again, if you're running artifacts. Or, in any deck using green or blue, if you're playing against artifacts, just play Open the Vaults, FOLLOWED by this, if they have a whole ton of stuff in the graveyard (which is, admittedly, unlikely, given a lot of Esper's abilities to keep cards in play once properly set up.)

I've lost so many games as Esper Aggro to this - I go from next turn air smash to an opponent with a greater board position, and higher life total with this one card.

This is among one of few cards that can destroy a double greater auramancy combo

I guess this is one way to get a little more iron in your diet. Or wreak holy devastation on the encroaching, self aware army of zombie robots. But why choose between the two?
as if Shatterstorm weren't enough to render artifact decks helpless.. im sure there are better answers to nerfing artifacts than just creating global destroy effects in each set.
I'm a Naya Timmy and this is one of my favorite cards. I love creatures, and I want to play 32 of them in my 60 card decks. I just save 4 slots for this card and everyone gets to play my game. It is practically criminal that this is an instant. For once I am okay with that... If I play an artifact with this, it is darksteel ingot. If I want to play an enchantment, it is rancor.

In EDH, this gets rid of a lot of board presence, as much of the mana excel/key combo pieces/etc. are artifacts or enchantments.

Anyone else see a simularity between the pose on this and Multani's Decree? Or am I just crazy?

while I find it difficult to imagine myself in these colors for EDH- FYI, if you are in these colors in EDH, you pick this card only second to Aura Shards. You pick your colors, you pick Aura Shards, you pick THIS, THEN you can start asking which General you even want to run. But you pick Aura Shards and this even before your General. You. Just. Do.

Love the Lattice + Forge + Fracturing Gust combo, and I've actually made a monoblack Cabal Coffer ramp deck that has it as one of the primary win cons (ramping into a Diabolic Revelation for x=3+, with the cards I still need of these 3 singletons being fetched with priority, and if I have any spares picking up whatever I need - often a Mind Sludge, sometimes my second Revelation).
But yes, the lifegain is often totally unnecessary - its rare that a player can come back from a one sided permanent sweep. And perhaps best of all, it works in multiplayer.

Slow, expensive, and flashy. Not my cup of tea.

Can be a lot of life. It's unfortunate it's 5 mana as many enchantments screw you long before you'll have this much mana. Great card for multiplayer creature decks, mediocre in 1v1 situations.

This was the worst day ever for my Esper opponent. I wasn't even using it, a third player was.
I just quietly put my Phyrexian Processor into my graveyard without a fuss. It hurt, but I knew my pain couldn't have equalled the Esper players. He even had a few artifact lands...

Step 2: Darksteel Forge
Step 3: Play this card
Step 4: ????
Step 5: PROFIT!
