This card is under rated due to the fact that people don't realize you can tap the already tapped Magus of the Arena.

no my friend..you cant pay the cost of it..yeah you can pay mana..but you cant pay the tapping..but its an awesome card paired with something like hateflayer..mirri the cursed is another nice pair..maybe a soul collector..but my favorite trio is this kiki-jiki and hateflayer..kiki-jiki makes a copy of hateflayer..magus taps one flayer...pay the untap cost and then attack with them both..then pay both untaps to do 15 life in one turn..for 11 mana all togather its not a bad trio

The tapping of creatures isn't part of the cost, it's part of the effect. Hell, when the errata was still up, it specifically mentioned you could.

@ragingoblin13: You use too many ellipses and you're wrong. InjuryMan and Cuttups are right: since the "tap target creature you control" comes after the colon, it's part of the effect, not part of the cost. That means you can target your own Magus of the Arena with the effect, even if he's tapped.

I'm reserving judgment on the Predator here until I'm actually able to cast him. But he could really shine with Act of Treason.

He looks like a predator. Aliens beware.

I think this would be a higher-rated card in pretty much any other color. Red decks lean towards mindless sh*tting their deck at you a little too much. If you just remember that every color can have a fast or slow game deck and win, then this is great for slower Red builds.

@funkadelicfred: The 'Fight' effect isn't combat damage, and ignores the 'strike' effects.

Rather fitting he's tied for the title of "biggest wizard in MTG". He's the same P/T as Dragon Mage and Arbiter of Knollridge.

Seems strange to make this Magus since the card it is referencing was just reprinted in Time Spiral.

It's kinda like Arena...but bad.

Pretty hefty red with a sweet ability for removing awkward creatures. What's not to like? I agree with DarthParallax this is great for slightly slower red decks

I'm assuming the referenced card is Arena... of the Ancients.

What amazed me at first wasn't the ability, but the fact that this is a 5/5 HUMAN.

It's not just an Arena, it's an Arena with a free massive fighter. Could be a fun surprise card in Human Decks.

Nearly every card in Time Spiral block was a throwback to at least one previously printed card.

This card references Arena and is part of the "Magus" super cycle of rare creatures. The cards in Planar Chaos all reference one of the most powerful lands ever; the others are Magus of the Bazaar, Magus of the Coffers, Magus of the Tabernacle, and Magus of the Library.

The Time Spiral part of the cycle focuses on powerful artifacts: Magus of the Candelabra, Magus of the Disk, Magus of the Mirror, Magus of the Jar, and Magus of the Scroll. The Future Sight part of the cycle focuses on powerful enchantments: Magus of the Moat, Magus of the Future, Magus of the Abyss, Magus of the Moon, and Magus of the Vineyard.
