For a rare, it's a bit... meh. It's just a mana morphed doom blade, don't like it.

If you use it with Horobi, death's wail out, you dont have to pay the cost at all. unless the target regenerates.

Its good because you can tap out and still have this up your sleve simalar to FoW. How its costed its very fair and balanced. I would prefer any creature rather then non black, but then this would be expensive i bet.
A nice "surprise! you thought I was tapped out" card for mono-black control, but Snuff Out is much better. If killing some particular creature isn't worth 4 life to you, then it shouldn't be worth to you either.

There are a lot of really dumb comments on this card. Do the other pacts have this problem?
Basically, this is a Doom Blade with interest people. That's it. What you make up for in surprise, you pay in mana later, or death if your opponent is clever and wastes your lands. All in all, easily the best pack due to its manageable cost and simple, yet elegant effect, and for the fact that the very pact mechanic is very much black.
