I think its so funny that this card is actually strictly better than something now. Still, this card isn't playable in contructed

The sad thing is that the flavor text is probably the only thing awesome about the card.

considering a RotAM flavor text deck.

I think Scathe Zombies and Gray Ogre suck because Wizards was hating on Black and Red at the time, making White seem like the good guys and therefore get better creatures than other colours. Seriously Black and Red go 2/2s for 3 meanwhile White got a 2/1 for 1!

Bettered by Barony Vampire. Doubtful we'll see these zombies again.

Why waste good flavor text on this?
Because it's vanilla.

There's way more room on vanilla dorks for awesome flavor text.

Well... they can block even if you don't control a vampire.

Love the art - reminds me of Brain Gorgers.

I would absolutely love it if Wizards would somehow update and rework Scathe Zombies into a 1 drop 2/2 that comes into play tapped. Then it would be perfectly balanced IMO.

Why's this a 2/5? It's not bad at all. *Sees mana cost is 3* Oh. Damn this card sucks. Same with Hill Giant.

Amazing how many crappy zombies there are. Add this one to the list.

Scathe Zombies are not crappy. Stop saying that. Sure, they are not tournament viable, but that's something completely different. A crappy card is something no-one would play, and this is certainly not one of them. At least not for me.

EDIT: To expand my previous assertions, I have this to say: I am a casual player, and I actually think that, within that setting, Scathe Zombies is the quint-essential zombie card. It has been with M:TG since its very start, and in addition to that, it has its wonderful flavour text. That, and the fact that it is a simple and unassuming vanilla, turns into, dare I say, the most iconic zombie card ever. I would gladly put it into each and every zombie deck I were to make.

@Hayw00d0909: Congratulations, you've foreseen Diregraf Ghoul months before it was printed.
Also, Walking Corpse finally puts it to its final rest. Innistrad is giving zombies a lot of love.
Warpath Ghoul isn't very far behind either.
And yes, the art really looks like Brain Gorgers, which happens to be one of my favourite zombies (and creatures) ever.

Nostalgic, but not really in a good way.

Way back when, when I got a soulless one in a booster and really wanted to make a zombie deck. Sadly, I had very few zombies in my limited card collection, so I was forced to use my scathe zombies. Even with the help they got from the warchief and the courier, they just were never good.

When warpath ghoul came out, I was really pleased cause I could take out my scathe zombies and give the zombie deck another shot (I stopped playing magic for a long time until after alara, so I missed a lot of zombie support in the interim). And now with Innistrad, I can retire warpath for Diregraf Ghoul

So I get nostalgia from this, but its not really good nostalgia...

@Kryptnyt
But there are only three cards...

Not that that kind of thing would stop people like us. No sir. I'm off to go build my 36 Scathe Zombies 24 Swamps deck. Because I bought a box of random cards from a shop for fun and it had that many Scathe Zombies.

I was not happy about that.

To the person on here who will probably never read this who said 1-drop for 2 that ETB tapped:

Diregraf Ghoul.

And the flavor text is AWESOME!!

Yo dawg, I heard you like grizzly bears, so we made it cost 2Black so you can play bears in your zombie deck.

Guys, this is how 2/2 zombies should be priced. Notice how WOTC printed Walking Corpse only twice before they had to replace it withFleshmad steed. Walking corpse is so OP. It's a burr that doesn't die to doom blade. I hope they just print scathe zombies from now on.
