Unique ability. In the right deck...

Dear arachibuty - It doesn't say you can play him for free, just that you can play him. It means that if you have 28 mana available, and are currently searching your library, you could crap out 4 of these.

7 CMC for a 9/5 trampler is already pretty decent, the ability is also useful in decks such as mine. Normally I dread drawing a Rampant Growth late in the game, but with a couple of these in my deck they can become quite useful.

It's a good card, with an incredibly interesting ability. 5/5 for being good, interesting, and innovative.

One of my favorite cards. No one ever expects it. I love using the fetch lands and playing this guy as a suprise blocker and/or finisher.

Such a fun card in Elder Dragon Highlander. Use instant speed search like wayfarer's bauble or a panorama and have a huge surprise blocker that eats their big bad critter. Sucks to topdeck it though.

7 CMC for a 9/5 isn't bad. Trample makes it pretty good. Being able to cast him easily, and when you usually can't? Now that's just great. The fact that you have to pay for it means that it isn't horrendously broken.

The current amended rules text is MUCH easier to interpret lol.

Pretty neat, not totally broken but always fun. I think a deck with him as a centerpiece would be really cool.

Fun to flash him into play, but they'll learn to be wary when you leave a fetchland uncracked during their turn. This in itself is fun.

Guys. You have to PAY for the thing even if you search for it, it's not free.

As for the cost, a 9/5 trampler for 7 would be good with nothing else, but the library search takes the cake. Get a Sylvan Ranger or a Cultivate later in the game? Drop it and play this dude. Pretty much no downside, as it survives all burn up to and including Flame Slash.

can activate mana abilities while you're casting the Wurm while you're searching your library.
Love that line! (its from the rulings)

Not only is it a beetstick its a beat stick you can play from out of absolutely nowhere. So cool. This guy probably has one of my favorite abilities in the game!

This ability is by far cooler than flash. Very sweet card.

Effectively has flash since you can play him while landcycling or casting a land-fetching instant like Harrow

During your main phase: terramorphic expanse
While opponent is attacking: Sacrifice Terramorphic Expanse, (search for land), play wurm from library and block. Yes!

(WotC Employee 1): Hey! Does anyone have an idea to make Demonic Tutor possibly better and cheaper?
(WotC Employee 2): How about create a creature that can be cast if you're looking through your library?
(WotC Employee 1): Genius Derek! Let's do it! It'd make so much sense!
(WotC Employee 3): Yeah! And then we'll make a creature WITH Demonic Tutor on it, and make it a flying demon!
(1):...
(2): That's F**king stupid, you idiot. What kind of genius would make that?
(1): Yeah, Jim. Go away. No one wants you here. Ok, so now, lets give it... Trample!... And make it... a Wurm! Yeah!

And that's how Rune-Scarred Demon was created.
Wait, what? Hmm?

So we have a good reason to use things like Rampant Growth and Cultivate even if we have enough mana to get by.

Adds "cantrip" to land searches. And by "cantrip" I mean "OH GOD WHERE DID THAT THING COME FROM AHHHHHH"

The best thing about this is that it does cool stuff just by being in your library. If you just run one then you have a lower risk of drawing him and just as much chance to cast.

One of the most interesting cards in the game. At least from this Melvin's point of view.

That's gotta be one of the most interesting mechanics I've seen so far.

If I had a dollar for every shocked look I've gotten while playing this... The reason he is so great is that he has the power to end games when you do play him, and he comes out of absolutely nowhere. With an evolving wilds out you can play this any time, with an empty hand. That is very useful when you are facing a control deck. Wait for a tap-out and suddenly BAM a big stompy 9/5 appears!

I can't say I've ever seen anything quite like this before. A powerhouse, if fragile, but the ability to come outta NOWHERE makes him really appealing.

@htgtmd: You sir are a genius.

You can't cast him if you're searching your library on an opponent's turn, can you?

I'm pretty sure this is the only card in the game that generates card advantage just by being in your deck. Worth it for that reason alone.

Love love LOVE this dude. Mechanically wonderful, flavorfully hilarious, balanced and fun. A mite confusing to new players, but they get it when you explain it. The word "cast" really helps.

I run this guy in a mono-green ramp deck that works really well. The key is library searching that is free to activate. Usually I crack a fetchland or a Sakura-Tribe Elder mid-combat and kill some unsuspecting attacker, then he's ready to go kick some butt next turn.

Like I said, I absolutely love the mechanic, I think it's creative and inventive, works just as intended, and is neither over- nor under-powered. That said, I am so glad that it is confined to this one card. If this were a "regular" mechanic, and appeared on several cards (and god forbid those cards were actually good), Magic would become a boring, repetitive game, with much frustration and exasperation all around.

Wizards: Yo, Timmy, I heard you like wurms, so I put a wurm in your library that you can play from your library while you search your library.

Ok guyz, definitely trying this in my Omnath EDH. With all the mana ramp I have there, im pretty sure I can drop this on turn 4-5-6.
