This is about as meh as a card can get.

Where's the meh?

It's a three mana, instant speed Fend Off that also does damage if you payed R.

Sure, there's better cards for a mono deck, but Ravnica as a block isn't about mono cards or decks.

"You're attacking me with a 20/20? Boros Fury-Shield, and yes, I did pay red."

It's not a prevention card, it's a game winning card. I've won so many games with this card, must have for any deck that has red and white. It's a cheaper Reflect Damage!

My goodness. Ravnica, and their WEIRD hybrid cards, and FUN to play experiments. I LOVE this "Birthday Cake" Set!! HAHA!!

I mean seriously, preventing damage AND dealing that much damage to your opponent? What's not to love?!

F this card. It's way too good, especially for three mana. Worst part is, I've seen it used to win a match in one turn numerous times (I myself have used it too). This should be straight-up banned! I'm not sure if this is the correct term for it, but i believe this is a "Spike"

I sure hate getting killed with this - I mean, you wouldn't normally expect your big fat fatties to turn on you :S

Combine with any pump spell for massive fun. "Oh, you're attacking me with your 1/1? Let me put some Giant Growth on that for you. Now you take five damage for my four mana." Even better with bigger creatures/bigger pumps. "Oh, you're hitting me with your 9/9? Let me put Might of Oaks on that for you. Here you go, 16 damage to the face."

Also completely nullifies the mighty Baneslayer Angel - block with your flying creature with five power or more, Boros Fury-Shield the damage, and bam, opponent takes five from this card, BA didn't do any damage so neither first strike nor lifelink matter, and they have a dead angel. Anything that can take down that broken card while doing damage and just needs to be combo'd with a 5/* in the air, for three mana, is okay in my book.

Seems like a solid card, but I'm not a fan of the art. It completely lacks energy and dynamic-ness.

This card is amazing. A lot of people don't read it carefully and assume it deals damage equal to the amount of damage prevented. In fact, it deals damage equal to the creature's power, at Instant speed. Basicaly a Soul's Fire played on an opponent's creature. That means you can kill your opponent immediately after the declare blockers step, before damage resolution. There have been many times when I thought I was swinging for the win when we were both down to around 6 life, only to have this played on my Gleancrawler. My friend thought that meant it was a draw, but I was a good enough sport to correct him.

So... I guess this doesn't work well with sunforger, since the red mana was used to unequip, not cast the spell.

Awesome card with great psychological value if your opponent knows you have it in your deck / hand.

Target their Blightsteel Colossus and win with poison in Boros. o_O

You win the Balls of Blightsteel award if you donated the Colossus first.

@Prizrak: Damage is dealt by they Boros Fury-Shield, not the Blightsteel Colossus, so you can't poison someone to death with this card. Still a strong card anyway.

Woot! So happy to find this. It's the missing link to my boros deck.

Question: Can I Fling in response to a Boros Fury-Shield being played on my attacking creature in order to avoid taking the damage myself?

"Man, I'm so awesome! Turn 2 activated Dark Depths, time to swing for-"

While this card has the advantage of having multiple options when you cast it, the fact that Boros Fury-Shield deals the damage and not the creature means you can't cause a blow out using your opponent's Blightsteel Colossus as you can with Mirror Strike. And, for commander play, Mirror Strike can fit in decks without red, whereas Boros Fury-Shield cannot. Like I said, though, if you really like have options, then the Fury-Shield at least has that.

It's biggest downside though is that it relies on your opponent attack you with creatures, and not all decks do so. But against certain decks, this is an easy win con.

A nasty spell that's won me a few games in an almost insulting manner. Letting my opponent build up a huge creature just to turn its own power against them might be a bit mean, but I just reassure myself by remembering that my opponent was trying to hit me with all that damage.

It's also nice because my opponents tend to second guess themselves, which often makes this like a virtual holy day for as long as I can bluff them into thinking I have it.

Interestingly enough, I have used this on my own creature once. I was low on life and attacking, and my opponent cast Divine Deflection. In order to save my life, I cast this on my own creature, and thankfully had enough white and colorless mana open to avoid killing myself.

I know a guy for whom this card is his win condition in casual. This actually happened:
Me: swing with Draco, equipped with Sword of Kaldra.
Him: "In response..."

My friends today where playing there two life gain decks against each other and one of them got Ajani's avatar out. It was a 76/76 with a loxodon warhammer equipped to it. He attacked and my other friend used this card and he lost to his own power

Consider Delirium. Just when your buddy thinks its safe to swing (as you have no W open) you spring out Fury-Shields' older brother.
