Great sorcery speed card draw.

Second best darw spell in current Extented (the first one is Thirst of Knowledge) but it's a pity that it is sorcery.

if it was an instant the ban hammer would come on this card swiftly
At sorcery speed, this remains a good, but not broken, draw. In most cases you're going to discard a land anyway (unless you're mana screwed and need all the lands you can get...)

Such is the power of Ancestral Recall that even pale, overcosted sorcery-speed imitations of it are considered extremely good.

Quicken, then Instant-speed Compulsive. Draw 1 + 3 - 1 = 3 or 1 + 3 - 2 = 2 for 4 CMC at Instant speed? At worst, it's one level below Jace's Ingenuity and at best JI doesn't have jack on this.

Also, subtle "get outside more" undertone.

one of the better draw engines, draw for 3 is good, filling your graveyard also, can fuel madness etc. solid
NOT a strictly worse brainstorm

Wow. This is SO much better than Divination. It digs deeper into your library for answers, if you can afford to pitch a land it gives you card advantage, and even if you can't it still sculpts your hand into something more playable. Great addition for most any cube, and here's hoping Wizards will reprint this during the Return to Ravnica block.

Great card draw.

@Juicebox360: You forget you're using 2 cards..

Love this card, if your deck doesn't mind tapping out on your own turn then 4 of these will keep your deck rolling smoothly.

I can't believe they've never reprinted this, even in the supplemental products. It's an excellent and useful draw spell without being "too good." A very delicate balance, and this card pulls it off perfectly.

@ wstonefi: you're right! Really? Not a single reprint in 7 years? Like for Dream Cache (14 years!!!) I'm really surprised...!

Very elegant, effective, and balanced draw card. I feel so lucky to be around Magic during Tempest and Ravnica block. I left during Urza because of that stupid and nonsense block, only to return in Mirrodin, that was Urza No.2 regarding the number of banned card from a single block... Luckly, I endure so much to see Ravnica and Time Spiral block. But enough with the story of my life...

I give this card 5/5 for being elegant, balanced, fair and funny! One of my favourite...

This is probably considered slightly too good by today's standards. Or maybe not. Mulldrifter was a bit too good and Cryptic Command was definitely ridiculous, but I couldn't tell if this is better or Jace, Architect of Thought. I wouldn't be surprised if this shows up in the next core set.

Judging by that flavor text, somebody is making a Frostburn Weird.

This has 3 disadvantages compared to Ancestral Recall:
1) Sorcery speed
2) Increased cost
3) Discard
Yet this is still considered a great card. Tells you something about Ancestral Recall.
