YAY, first post! This is cool with djinn illuminatus 4/5 ... yea.

Horrible card. Either use Pyroclasm which gives more bang for the buck, or some spell with greater versatility, like Breath of Darigaaz or any mass burn spell with X.

A red version of Dry Spell. Definitely suits the color, but as majinara already pointed out it's not too useful.

Hits players, Pyroclasm does not, and it hits all creatures, Breath of Darigaaz does not hit flyers. Different spells to do different things.

Better spells available for what you get, but not bad in and of itself. Nice in draft where you could be up to your ears in saprolings at any time.

I find this to be a great card for an Izzet deck. With Tibor and Luminia, it does 2 damage to all creatures without flying, 1 to creatures with flying. If it were any more powerful, it would kill Tibor and Luminia. With Izzet Guildmage, it can be replicated to create a Wrath of God effect.

Actually...
I think I might like this more than Pyroclasm.
Think about it:
In RDW, a lot of the defenses are minimal.
Dealing a two-damage sweep of the board can get rid of a lot of creatures.
This, however, not only deals non-combat damage for certain effects,
But leaves a fair amount of your creatures in-tact.
Iunno, situational, but I like it.

Still waiting for the card that does exactly this for one mana. Tremor only hits non-flyers.

usually doesn't do much, but like FargoJake said with Tibor and Lumia it does 2 damage to non-flying creatures, I've also found it to be a very effective way to pump up my chandra's spitfire in multiplayer games
In most other formats I would prefer Pyroclasm for the extra damage. But this card actually does a fair amount of work in my Pauper Cube. It's not unusual for Rain of Embers to wipe out 2 or 3 of an opponent's creatures since so many creatures in my Cube have 1 toughness. And on top of that it triggers bloodthirst.

People, people. There are reasons to want to not hit 2-toughness creatures. This can be superior to Pyroclasm at times such as that.
This could work in an replicate deck, but otherwise it's good against a really annoying populate one.

Breath of Darigaaz or Earthquake are almost always better. This card is specifically to show you that sometimes you can build around 2-toughness while killing the other person's board and losing nothing.
It's limited fodder that misses the utility of it's cousins; but it's useable. A good 2-2.5 card.
