Its actually more playable Without the awkward three-card combo lol. Grabs you a counter in mono-blue control, or a combo piece you need. Good stuff, this is one small reason I am not of the opinion Kamigawa block was crap.

Sapphire Medallion reduces the cost faster than Long-Forgotten Gohei, assuming that your deck is focusing on getting The Unspeakable as quickly as possible.

Also, Peers Through Depths can search for other pieces of the combo as well.
