Given that your opponent has no creatures, this can effectively act as reusable Ball Lightning. The colorless activation cost might even be advantageous if you want to splash another color.

I like how for 1 red mana you get an enchantment that FORCES your opponent to have a blocker/removal ready for it EVERY turn (just in cases!)

Awesome. Combos excellently with mass creature-kill spells, Thundermare and Timbermare.

Someone please explain to me the large difference in price and popularity between this and tarmagoyf.

Goyf doesn't kill your lands when it gets chumped.

Turn 1: Mountain, tap, enchant itself with this.
Turn 2: Some kind of mana accel to get , SMASH!
Only pity it the 1 toughness.

This guy is great for sligh. Turn unused mana into a very scary threat? Yes please!

Fantastic against another red deck. Just get out your prodigal pyromancer or any of his brethren, and then for 3 mana a turn you can repeatedly blow up their mountains. This is why it having a 1 toughness is actually pretty awesome.
In case you're not playing against a red deck, you might want to try blood moon.
I don't like it when my man-lands (Okay, spirit-lands) are squishy. This thing is just a disaster waiting to happen if anyone's packing, well, anything that can deal damage.

@MDStrawHat Well for one, Tarmogoyf is a two mana creature that can also easily be worthwhile late-game. Many blue decks splash green for it because it is a very solid creature for type-balanced ol' blue.

Potentially 6 power creature swinging on turn 2. If they block its taking something out and coming back. 4.5/5 nasty little uncommon.
Fantastic card. It turns basic lands into manlands! Also, you can be pretty mean against people who use mountains, or lots of non-basic lands (combined with bloodmoon).
For more linear use, put it on a mountain on turn 1. Then, later, when you have about 4 or 5 mana, use burns to clear the way, and swing in for 6 damage each turn. If they kill your land, you can just move to a new one.
I want to use this because it is really good at getting around blue control decks. On turn 1, they won't be able to counter it (most likely), and they can't stop it from becoming a creature. It's quite a dangerous card.

Wow, this is really cool. Would go best in a deck with Rancor and stuff. 1 toughness is not an issue if you have a huge 6 power creature ready to swing on turn 2. Compare to Hammer of Purphoros for reusable manland engines.
