Can be quite useful at certain times, but by the time you are able to play Higure you would probably have most of the Ninjas you already want either in your hand or in play, so his ability is not that useful. His ninjitsu cost is quite expensive, but his other ability is essential in any Ninja deck, and is useful in other decks.

Its dissapointing that theres only eight ninja cards in the game of magic. I really would have loved to make an EDH deck with Higure as the general.

Ok i know theres only 8 Ninja, think of this as a Deck Recipe. This is a Fun Ninja Decking/Killing Deck.
3x Higure, the Still Wind
2x Ink-Eyes Sevant of Oni
3x Mistblade Shinobi
3x Ninja of Deep Hour
2x Okiba-Gang Shinobi
3x Throat Slitters
4x Wondering Ones
4x Bile Urchin
2x Honden of Seeing Winds
2x Honden of Night's Reach
4x Dampen Thoughts
4x Time Scours
4x Rend Flesh

Does using the Ninjutsu cost count as casting it? If so, the Ninja tribe would be one of the best for generating charge counters for Door of Destinies.

This is the card that suckered me into MTG. Sweet art and the core of the Ninja deck.

River of unblockable ninjas? River of unblockable ninjas. My Ninja Gland gets excited and begins overproducing Ninjosterone just looking at this guy.

Ninja are too expensive of a creature type to build a real tribal deck around them. The fact that there are only two real ninja (not talking about changelings here,) in the game that can survive a lightning bolt to the face, and both are legendary and won't be out until turn 4 or 5 at the earliest, means that regardless of what you put in your deck, it's not going to be strong enough to be anything more than a crippled pseudo-tribe deck.

Three reasons why I love it
1. It is not expensive: 4 mana cost 3/4, and not very expensive to spend 5 mana instead
2. Ammazing ability to make itself or/and other ninja unblockable
(These two reasons can be concluded by comparing with other unblockable creature: Æther Figment, Creeping Tar Pit, Merfolk Sovereign...)
3. Thought you may alreay have a good ninja, increase hand size by creature / thin deck is always good

This dude (with the other ninjas) is why I started playing Magic. My interactions with this game ever since has been to win with the way cooler strategies (like this here ninjutsu) that tend to be handicapped compared to other themes that the game comes out with. I tend to shy away from things that I hear literally everyone else talking about. Then I wander off to some other strategy which makes it harder for me to win a game. Oh, well. I play Magic mostly for an identity (as stupid as that sounds). Killing someone with faeries and vampires just for the sake of it is kind of... blah, in my opinion.

Bear in mind, all, that ninjutsu is an activated ability so it can be played at instant speed. Ninjutsu can happen anytime in the combat phase after blockers are declared (see the rulings about unblocked attacking creatures on Curtain of Light). If you have a ninja in your hand and it's ninjutsu mana open, you can rescue your unblocked creatures from targeted removal. This (kind of like the forecast mechanic) is not really a gut-busting strategy but still very good to know about in certain situations.

Higure's combat damage ability is almost as important as the unblockable ability. It insures that in one or two turns you will have a mistblade and/or Okiba-gang (or whoever else) to harass your opponent in addition to your regular card draw for the turn. Also, I would say that a good ninja deck should not have a lot of ninjas in it.

@Gwafa_Hazid

No, Ninjutsu is an activated ability, so it can't be countered either, unless your opponent counters with Stifle or Voidslime.

I would play more of a control ninja deck, something like this:
4 Ornithopter
4 Sage Owl
4 Shuriken
4 Higure, the Still Wind
4 Mistblade Shinobi
4 Ninja of the Deep Hours
2 Walker of Secret Ways
4 Forbid
4 Ponder
4 Brainstorm
2 Serum Visions
2 Counterspell

16 Island
2 Minamo, School at Water's Edge

Only 18 lands because of Sage Owl, Ponder, Brainstorm, and Serum Visions.
This deck is pretty good, and it beats elves 9 out of 10 times.

There are only 8 blue changelings. Any more ideas to use this guy in an EDH deck? Good things to combo with changelings?

Ninjitsu... is the most powerful ability with unblockable creatures. And you are giving them unblockablility for two? Count me in! Instant 4 of in any Ninja deck!

Oh god yes. This'd be sweet with my changeling deck. Unblockable Chameleon Colossus- always a good thing! Not to mention being able to search up more cards than the dozen or so ninjas in existence.

An interesting note:

The rules text on both the card and oracle merely says "Higure" as oppoesed to "Higure, the Still Wind".

I can't think of any other cards (specifically legendaries) that used an abridged form of their name like that.

@HairlessThoctar

Because the guy that write the oracle for this card is a good friend of Higure. So, he don't need formalities xD

Yo dawg, I heard you like ninja...
It's a pity you have to reveal the ninja you search for - it makes them feel less sneaky.

Interestingly, Higure can now search up Nameless Inversion with his damage to a player ability...(there are other changeling spells he can pull, but removal seems like it'd be the most useful)

This guy with whispersilk cloak, use his ability to make a Mistblade or two unblockable, watch as mistblades come out for 1 mana with Ronin War Clubs attached and precede to deal 10+ dmg a turn.

@Nathreet: I've actually seen an interesting black and blue deck with Ninjas as its centerpiece in a MTG computer game mod. It relied on unblockable and evasive cards (Dimir Infiltrator) to get the Ninjas in unblocked. It also had some cards that can use the "return to hand" effect of Ninjutsu to their advantage, like Baleful Strix.
