I love it when people read this and go "What's this? This is rubbish!"

I used to be like them too, wondering what this was doing on the power nine next to eight clearly superior cards. That was until it was played against me and I saw first hand what it can do...

This is definately an iconic card - but just as Pluto got kicked out of the exclusive club of being one of the nine "planets" of our solar system, so too should Time Twister be removed from being considered "power".

Seven cards for three mana. That's just insane. Even if it's the weakest of the Power Nine, it's still worlds more powerful than any draw card besides Ancestral Recall.

Really strong card, usefull in T1 for many decks, expecially combo decks...not so good for control and sometimes is risky, that's why my vote is not 5 but 4,5 (however really good, a bomb for some combo decks)

what about wheel of fortune and its red? It wasn't as expensive, but I think I might own "one" somewhere.

I traded two (U) moxes for a (U) black lotus when I was 12, does that still matter? I ended up having my time walk stolen in cheyenne WY, so I sold the other P9 card I had (The lotus), (I think I did the same with the library of alexandria), why couldn't our parents invest in our hobbies like the sixties barbie dolls? ***!

actually I'm wrong I traded black lotus (U) for two moxes. w/e, at least the moxes stayed in the game ***. what's the point of your shivan dragon to be terrored for no reason and youre minus something b/c u paid for with a black lotus. I voted for moxes over lotus (from the cards we had)

Well for a burn deck, that fucks over timetwister, b/c you can cast the wheel with the last card in your hand. Well nvm, so can timetwister, I never owned that one. But red was cool for the lightning bolt spurge and wheel of fortune was red..

OK, I read some of the comments here... I'm having trouble understanding how some of the people who made comments on this card are that dumb. Timetwister is incredibly Powerful, yet someone thinks it's crap compared to the rest?

Let's see, I've won about... Maybe 50 games, using Timetwister and Underworld Dreams.

And for the guy who said Wheel of Fortune does almost the same... No! Wheel of Fortune makes you discard your hand and draw 7 new cards, and Timetwister has the dual purpose of not only refilling your hand, but putting all your resources BACK IN YOUR DECK! How the hell can someone compare that to one that you draw 7 and that's it with?

I have a deck with 4 Underworld Dreams, and with no Black Lotus or Moxes, and just Dark Rituals, they can come out REALLY fast, and not only that, they are all only 3 casting cost. You cast Timetwister and they have to take 28 damage for 3 Mana.

Wheel of Fortune is good for this too because you can add in Megrim and make them take a lot of damage, but Timetwister is better because you get all the cards back from your graveyard!

Also, a Vercursion deck, Timetwister is one of the most important cards in that deck. You use it to gain infinite life and Mana, and you get to put all your resources back in the deck instead of not getting them back at all.

I agree with the guy who was talking about thinking it was crap at first until he played against someone with it who knew what they were doing. In the right deck this card is WAY more powerful than Time Walk.

think about it like this:

If you're playing a game and your not getting what you need, and you need to reboot your deck, this is the only way.

I can both understand SlackWareWolf and TheMonadNomad.

That certainly also is insane card draw and as opposed to Wheel of Fortune has an Reminisce effect included on top of it which lets the caster reuse all of his cast spells and destroyed permanents, yet:
Your opponent gets to do just the same.
Therefore in a Mirror Match for example, this is effectively card and mana disadvantage for you.

Of course i'm exaggerating now, and besides you're the one that goes first to use those cards.

On top of that you can adjust your deck to make this card a certain advantage for you, e.g. by adding Underworld Dreams to punish your opponent for drawing, and your opponent could possibly also get problems if all graveyards get cleaned again.
But wait. So the Power Nine is considered to be the most powerful cards ever printed.
Yet some players even say those are cards that can make any deck stronger that uses them. And this isn't urgently true for Timetwister.
Yawgmoth's Will for example is also greatly loved by some players and amazingly effective, yet also because theirs decks are adapted to it.
The famous Power Ten affix is similar.

I think this is the reason why Timetwister actually is seen less often in blue Vintage deck lists as opposed to Ancestral Recall, Time Walk, Mox Sapphire or Black Lotus.

It's also notable that there are two remakes of this card.
The first one being Time Spiral from Urza's Saga which is still insanely broken, and a card from Mirrodin called Temporal Cascade - apparently a bit cautiously overcosted this time.

Honestly. people who are rating this lower than the rest of the P9 have no idea of what they are talking about, and have never played Vintage in their lives. Draw 7 is a very important part of Vintage, and this is by far the best of any Draw 7 card there is, for Vintage, at least, the eternal format with the highest power level in Magic.

Resolving a Timetwister does far more than resolving a Mox/Lotus/Walk/Recall. People are forgetting the effect that it has on your opponent, one of the biggest boons of Timetwister. I'm absolutely certain that people don't understand the Vintage meta, as this will irrevocably damage Stax, and completely shut down Ichorid, two popular Vintage mainstays. This will downright hose any graveyard/recursion based deck, and it is more than just an incredible sideboard for decks like Fish. It is one bomb that refills your hand and shuts down your opponent in one go.

You know I play this card in my deck. And even though it's really really powerful mainly because I can get back all the cards I used in my library and draw a new hand of seven cards, let me say that my friends also like when I play this card. I'm vintage and they're not, but they still appreciate it very much most of the time even though I have a better card-efficiency then them. I would say basically that this card, on top of allowing you some very impressive combos, is like a Wrath of God or a Balance; it can twist the game entirely in your favor depending on what you get in your new hand, or it can help you simply refill your hand with a possibility of playing again those restricted cards you've already played or it can screw you if your opponents draw better hands than yours. All in all, I say it's a very valuable card and allowed me to win so many games and was the key to so much fun combos that I love it very much, especially with Tormod's Crypt or effects alike. :p

I agree that this is a very powerful spell and deserves to be on the Power 9. It's not just because of drawing 7 cards, but also recycling your ENTIRE graveyard (which most likely contains other Power 9 or restricted cards if you are lucky enough to have a Timetwister) back into your library. Not only that, it doesn't remove itself from the game like Feldon's Cane does. So, this whole cycle can be done over and over again. The combos with cards like Underworld Dreams/Black Vice are just icing on the cake.

Absolutely fantastic card. If you ever played magic in the early days or against a vintage blue deck, there is really nothing worse then surviving time walk and ancestral recall, only to have them reinserted into the library and your opponent draws 7 new cards. Also unlike some newer weaker versions of this card, Timetwister is not removed from the game which means the cycle can be repeated again, also you only need one blue mana to play this card. It can easily be flashed in almost any deck. Definitely should be in the power 9. Personally I think that it should be power 10 and include Time Vault also.

I don't believe this should be in the Power Nine. Consider for a moment the color you're using it with: blue. Blue players tend to hold certain cards in their hand, waiting for the opportune moment to play them, and they don't usually bolster their defenses with many creatures. So what does this really do for a blue player who's holding a full hand of cards with few creatures in play? Firstly, because blue players have full or nearly full hands, this card doesn't truly offer card advantage, since it requires you to dump your hand into your library. It doesn't let you plan how you will play your next turns, since you have no clue what your new hand will look like. Lastly, it does nothing to affect the state of the battlefield, so if your opponent is overwhelming you with creatures, you're still left in a dismal state after this resolves.

This just isn't a very blue card when you consider how it spits in the face of the blue player's virtues of defense, planning, and card advantage. Upheaval covers blue's bases much more, I think. Also, Time Spiral is clearly better than this card.

The incestuous cousin of the power 9. Honestly, if it had been caught earlier, balance would be in this card's slot for power 9. Still, it is a great card, if only because it is undercosted by 1 mana.

Balance and Timevault are better cards, but back in the days, if you could drop black lotus, two moxes and a land (tolarian academy would be the best, but the chance to get so good hand is very low) in turn one, you would have only 3 cards left in sac the lotus (if you have the academy it could sometimes be better to tap be before sac, if not running many artifacts) and use this get black lotus back in the deck, and draw 7 new cards (with a chance of getting the lotus back). That is powerful indeed and deserve a place in the power 9.

I'll probably get shot down for this, but anyway Timetwister really is not as good as Time Spiral. While Time Spiral is twice as expensive to cast, this really isn't much of a drawback because the effects of this spell are more useful in the middle stages of the game than they are right out of the gate. Also, Time Spiral, at the very least, pays for itself. If you factor in a Tolarian Academy, Gaea's Cradle or any other land spitting out multiple mana, Time Spiral becomes a mana accelerator as well. So, you have better odds of being able to play other things after Time Spiral resolves.

to all of you who are stating that Timetwister is overhyped, I highly doubt your ever owned and played with one. In a deck with Windfall, Wheel of Fortune, and Memory Jar, with the rest of the power and other fast mana like Vaults, Sol Ring and Dark Rituals this card spanks people, you cast it with ease. I spent many a first turns droping a blue dual and two moxes, or a mox and a sol ring or Mana Crypt or whatever, I then cast Twister refill my hand and possibly do more right away with other moxen floating around, at worst case I drew force of wills, counters and drains, I still had control.

at 2U to cast Timetwister can ruin someones day, I remember watching an opponent mulligan his habd down to 5 cards to get his combo in his hand, so I Timetwistered and he folded, true story.

At first, I wasn't so sure why this card was so good. After making a completely legal deck in Magic Workstation containing a playset of each of the Power 9 was I made a believer.

Imagine casting this as the last card in your hand. Congratulations, you just drew seven cards, recycled your graveyard, maybe threw your opponent a couple extra cards, but completely messing up any plans they may have had. I think its worthy of being in the Power 9 (along with a few others like Sol Ring and Time Vault).

timetwister is one of the most powerful cards of all time. period.

if you think this give your opponent the same advantage.... seriously? does wrath of god give your opponent the same advantage? does armageddon give your opponent the same advantage? does hypergenesis give your opponent the same advantage, does aluren give your opponent the same advantage? of course not silly >.>, maybe if you stuck this in a random blue deck and played it while you both had the same amount of cards in hand, but who does that?

the point of this card is that you can usually use it t1, and it refills your whole hand. the effect of this cannot be overstated in vintage. (and your opponent gets, you guessed it, nothing, additionally he cant mull away his hand anymore to get better pieces)

of course, this is better in vintage than in legacy. because legacy decks are slower, and they are less powerful. many cards are this way, such as trinisphere, but in vintage context, this deserves to be in the p9

Why are you people saying this shouldn't be in the power 9 when it clearly should?

Power 9:

Black Lotus
Mox Sapphire
Mox Pearl
Mox Ruby
Mox Emerald
Mox Jet
Time Walk
Ancestral Recall
Timetwister

All cards that can clearly give you a huge advantage and/or turn a game around.

Curious as to what you think the 9th card should be if Timetwister shouldn't.

Anyone who thinks this is bad,
or in any way "unworthy" of the P9,
should give it a try in a deck with Time Walk and Ancestral Recall.
Once you've played either of those cards twice in one turn
(or, god forbid, *both* of them twice, which does happen sometimes),
your doubts will be gone.

I'll admit, I used to doubt this card as well,
but I got one for $50 over ten years ago,
and I haven't even *considered* trading or selling it.

Just think about it like this-
Blue is not a color rife with reclamation spells.
Like Feldon's Cane, this reclaims your *entire* graveyard,
*and* it lets you draw 7 cards,
giving you a *very* good chance of drawing a card you wanted back from the grave.

Yes, it does the same for your opponent,
but it does so during *your* turn-
if played right, they won't be able to use anything they've drawn until their turn,
which could be more than one turn away.

And if you packed Tormod's Crypt and Dissipate,
they're at a major disadvantage on the redraw, to boot.

5/5- this card rocks.

Pretty silly, though the most "balanced" of the Power 9 in that it doesn't just blow your opponent away without them technically getting something out of it. Another example (like Time Walk) of a spell that wasn't really balanced since it was rare.

It's a good cardl A VERY good card. You have the potential to totally turn the game around. I just don't think it's Power Nine good. It's simply not in the same league as Black Lotus, the Moxen and certainly not in the same universe as Ancestral Recall.

☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
Yeah, it's good, but Power 9? How is a card that causes your opponent to draw 7 cards better than all but eight other cards in the game? OK, granted, you're going to make sure to cast it at a time when it would benefit you more than your opponent, but it's still a benefit to your opponent.

To clarify what I mean: Someone just said "if you don't understand how powerful this is, try it in a deck with Time Walk and Ancestral Recall". Yes, it's good in a deck with cards like that. But Time Walk and Ancestral Recall are, by themselves, good in any deck with islands in it. The Moxen are great in any deck of the appropriate color, and even in most off-color decks. Black Lotus, of course, is great in any deck at all. That's what Power 9 means: Any deck at all, regardless of context, will benefit from them. This, though, is great in any deck that's already great, but in most decks, there will be a ton of things that are better.

While I agree that Timetwister is an amazing card, and incredibly powerful even on its own.....
I don't think it would be Power 9 IF IT WEREN'T that the rest of Blue is so good. Let me try to explain-

of course, in the context of the rest of the cards we know, it has been tried and tested and proved to be ZONKERS. Also, it is VERY DIFFICULT to imagine completely outside of the context of other cards, especially when thinking IN CONTEXT, its abundantly clear how super great this is.

But, lets think for a moment- compare Time Warp to Time Reversal. Time Reversal was charged only 2 more mana than this. Time Warp was charged almost triple the price of the original Time Walk. Time Warp is STILL great in just about ANY blue deck. Time Reversal? Did not stand the test of Time (pardon the pun) too well. This card is GREAT card, there is just no doubts there---

But a lot of what makes the Power 9 so GROSSLY OVERPOWERED is that, let us be frankly honest here- they are stupendously undercosted. Really egregiously so. Some later cards, however, proved that some of the effects of the Power 9 were STILL just amazingly good, EVEN after you tried costing them more restrictively. Lotus Bloom is such a card. Time Warp is such a card. Ancestral Vision, Mox Diamond, and Mox Opal are also great. Even Visions of Beyond looks like its going to be a big hit, and we all know about Brainstorm.

Is it really fair of me to judge this card by its strictly worse counterparts? If I wanted to say 'this specific card is bad' because of that, I'd be wrong. Instead, I'm trying to say, 'the basic effect of this card has been proven to be the weakest of the Power 9 effects, and I believe that most of Timetwister's power comes from its undercostedness, and I FURTHER suggest that this is NOT the case with the other Power 9, since their abilities have been put on heavier costing cards and have STILL been some of the most powerful cards in the game- ESPECIALLY Brainstorm and Lotus Petal.
If this sounds wrong to you, please explain to me why Time Reversal is so much weaker than the other 'Fixed Power' cards. I think the others would be Power 9 even if you bumped all their mana costs up by exactly 1. Would Timetwister be P9 at 3U? at 2UU? Maybe. Maybe not.

To appease Timetwister fans, I will close by making it clear that because it Is costed at merely 2U, it's ridiculously stupidly amazing and it's definitely Power 9 material.

It's under-rated, but when compared to the other 2 blue cards in the 9 it's not as good as an extra turn or 3 cards

Recovering your graveyard isn't quite as awesomely impressive nowadays as it was back then. We had Feldon's Cane and, uh, Regrowth. Two decades later, we have an abundance of graveyard interaction cards, so many newer folks brush off the shuffle-in, read only the "draw seven" and equate this card to Wheel of Fortune.

A better comparison would be something like Wheel of Fortune + Yawgmoth's Will. In practice, this card almost equates to those two cards combined.

You see the same complaints on Regrowth comment threads. "Why is this considered a powerful card?!"

You people who cannot see the automatic broken ungodly awesomeness of this card are morons. You can't see how an automatic reset button you play at your own choosing, with board position of your own choosing, is a crazy thing? How refilling your hand is insane? "Oh your opponent does it too, it's not as good as you think." Yeah, but you decide when it happens. You are topdecking, your opponent is sitting over there with card advantage and a smirk... this card and it's all back to square one, on YOUR terms.

Power Nine. There it is.

(Yawgmoth's Bargain is still probably my favorite card of all time, to be honest. But that has nothing to do with this card. This card is a great, broken, legendary god.)

People who understand how powerful timetwiser is always point out how they are the first person to use the new cards. While this is obviously important, they neglect to mention the equally important fact that they will also be the last person to use the old cards. From a card advantage aspect, this is huge. I can spend my hand doing whatever I want, and essentially not loose shit whether my cards are permanents or not. Then I can be like "swell" and do it all over again.

If used correctly, Time Twister can provide you with more than 2 Ancestral Recalls all rolled into one, nice, pretty package. And that is in addition to its other effects. And no, it doesn't have to give this bonus to the opponent as well, because it can be used when they already have 7 cards in hand.

Just saying. This DOES deserve its spot on the power 9.

IMO, I wish the whole P9 were about at this cards level. This is the power of a card that is like "HOLY SHIT, this card is powerful" without it being so powerful its in every deck ever and becomes boring. I wish it was an instant, though, just so it could be used to disrupt opponent's combos :P.

This card doesn't really deserve a Power 9 slot. It's really, really good, don't get me wrong, but it doesn't really fit. Black Lotus goes in every deck. The relevant Moxen go in every deck, and sometimes the irrelevant ones if you're not heavy on the color requirements. If you're playing blue, Time Walk and Ancestral Recall go in every deck. And all of those, you'll basically always want to cast it as soon as it hits your hand. Timetwister, while insane, isn't quite so insane that it makes any deck better just by being in it, you have to work with it a little. Not enough to make it remotely balanced, but enough that it's not an autoinclude.

For triple the mana of Ancestral Recall, you can easily triple the raw advantage it provides, AND get back your Ancestral Recall to use again. Only thing you have to be careful of, is, you know, your opponent.

It gives a far bigger advantage than being the first guy to use those cards. It gives the advantage of being the guy to choose when this happens. Remember, the battlefield stays.

It's a great card, but consider that it wasn't long before The Deck relegated this to the sideboard, and the only ones using it were combo decks. Contrast that to Time Walk and Ancestral Recall, which would never be sideboard material - maindeck for life - and you see there is a big difference between a powerful card (like this one), and a Power 9 card.

In my opinion, and the opinion of most classically famous Type 1 players, the actual 9th card of the Power 9 is Sol Ring, for the same reasons as the moxes and lotus. The only reason it's not obvious is that Sol Ring didn't hold the same rarity. Consider that in terms of raw power, a Sol Ring quite frequently can be more potent than an off-color mox (not on that turn, but for the rest of the game), and it's harder to kill one with Gorilla Shaman as well.

Probably my favorite of the Power 9 as it actually takes a little bit of thought to play it properly. I mean the moxes and the lotus can go into nearly any deck. Ancestral Recall and Time Walk make any blue deck better. This however requires a deficit in card advantage for it to become truly advantageous. Mind you, any blue deck worth it's salt will easily be able to abuse it. That said, holy monkeyball flipping jesus is this an unbelievable card.

Often considered the weakest of the P9 when people compare them individually, I think it's by far the strongest in multiples. With just two in your deck you can constantly keep refilling your library and hand, getting repeated uses out of your lotuses, recalls, and timewalks. Anyone who has seen an unrestricted timetwister knows its power.

If you really wanted to have fun, you could just have made a deck with one Fireball or Braingeyser, 19 Timetwisters and 20 Black Lotuses (the minimum deck size was 40). Just play all Lotuses from your hand, sac them for blue mana and cast Timetwister (bringing the used Lotuses back to your library). Repeat until you have enough mana to either kill your opponent with fireball or mill him with Braingeyser. The Braingeyser variant also allows you to draw your entire deck when you have enough mana, after which you should have at least 60 mana in pool (from your 20 Lotuses).

This is a great card, but it's been a little bit overshadowed by changes in the game over time. In most circumstances, this is going to give your opponent the play on the new hand first, unless you've got plenty of land out. And if you have plenty of land out, you would rather use Time Spiral. and have all of them untap. I think it's the same way in which Feldon's Cane is no longer really that great and has also been replaced by better cards (Elixir of Immortality).
