This card fails at life. Overpriced and worst of all, it's special ability gimps itself until it just dies.

Incredibly stupid card. Those two abilities aren't even compatible. It's a rare and definitely overcosted, so it also insults your logic by its very existence.

0.5/5. Die.

if this was printed today, it would cost 3Black, or maybe even 1BlackBlack.

And that would be right.

With today's multiplayer friendly cards like Blood Tyrant you might be able to pull this in casual, but honestly she is just too expensive. If she cost 3 mana she would be really good, but as it is she is just an amazing picture by the great Ron Spencer.

Just use hypnotic spector! Seriously!

Wow, good one. This would be like printing a 10/10 creature with flying, trample, and double strike and "Your opponents' life totals can't change." Two totally counter-productive abilities.

Are you dip*** forgetting that this is meant for a R/B or B/U discard/draw archetype? Font of Mythos in addition to Howling Mine as well as Gravestorm, are all cards that go hand in hand with this, sure you wouldn't bring this to a type 1 tournament but its a hell of a lotta fun in casual. And yes this isn't worth rare status.

Well, if your opponent is constantly drawing cards through Howling Mine or Font of Mythos or some other draw engine, maybe this card would be good...

...Nah.

Sucks in 1vs1, but great in multiplayer. There, it's nearly always a 5/5 specter for 5, which is very solid. Sometimes 7/7, and in rare cases (or the right deck), something like 10/10. It's abilities ain't then counter-synergistic either. Simply choose one player, and keep attacking the others.

It'd be kinda cool if it was a suicide card, saying something like "power/toughness equal to number of cards in defending player's hand; when this deals combat damage to defending player, that player discards his or her hand."

then, it'd be a 2/2 with flying for {B}{B}{B} at all other times. turn 1, play swamp, dark ritual, this, then pray they don't kill it on their turn. Swing, they take seven minus the land and spell they played, and they lose their hand while this dies.

I dunno. it'd make an interesting rare.

The more he deals combat damage to a player, the more he dies. Nezumi Shortfang if you really want a creature who'll lose the ability to make the opponent discard after he empties his hand... As if I even need to suggest a card to use in place of this..

I kind of like the anti-synergy of the abilities, it creates a cool tension and would be a great drawback on an otherwise undercosted card. Unfortunately this is overcosted if anything.

@Lateralis0ne
So you're saying that about three blightnings in one card is fairly costed at 3?
"discard hand" cards come with a condition or a high mana cost for a reason. Mind Twist was considered broken, and it costed 6-8 mana to twist a whole hand away. Think about that.

Despite the lack of power (or sense), it is one of the best specter arts.

The more expensive Adamaro, First to Desire. Ummm...Forced Fruition? Eh...yeah, this is counterproductive.

Actually, months later I just realized how this could be good for EDH. Attack one player, he discards, all the while you choose ANOTHER opponent's hand to base his P/T off of. Now, talking one on one, never good.

A specter that dies from doing its job?
...
Yeah. That's pretty underwhelming right there.

This card makes no sense, thanks to the conflict among his two abilities.

Worst specter ever!

There has to be a way to use this card properly because that art is just too awesome.

If the card was as good as its picture, it would be game-breaking.

As is, I'm not sure how this even got off the drawing board. Maybe if it had the body and the ability of Nyxathid as well as the discard...? As is, it's five mana for a dead/dead with Why.

The two ability do have anti synergy, but it can lead to interesting game moments. It is clearly overpriced by today's standards.

Would be awesome at 2 mana.

Boy wouldn't that have been awesome? {B}{B} for 3-5 damage and a discard unless they dump their hand or if they have a kill spell?

I actually think it'd be quite fair and shake-up legacy a tiny bit (not much if it's {B}{B})
