Flavor text of the century. I mean this card could potentially be useful, and have its drawbacks if the board got swept, but that doesn't matter at all. Flavor text of the god damn century.

5/5; nothing else matters.

I played this once in a Golgari-Dredge-Deck. Worked well

The problem I had with this card is obviously the fact that, you sometimes get stuck with those sub-par creatures going to the top deck when you desperately need that crucial kill spell, fatty, etc.

Makes good infinite mana with a fecundity though.

I could say the same thing about my decks.

this is not actually a terrible card. I'd be happy to open a reprint in M13.

@AlphaNumerical: I propose to you, Goblin Archaeologist. In challenging Mortuary to it's flavour text throne.

Mortuary + Future Sight + any 0 or 1 cost creature + Ashnod's Altar or Phyrexian Altar = Infinite mana and storm count.

Instead of a 0 cost creature, you could also use Priest of Gix, Cathodion, or any of the other creatures which fully replace their mana cost. If you only want storm count, you can dump the sacrifice engine and just use Blood Pet, which sacrifices for enough mana to replace itself.

@ sl33tbl1nd: I agree with you completely. However, this is Mortuary's Gatherer page, not Enduring Renewal's, so I posted a combo which actually has Mortuary in it.

Why bother with Ashnod's Altar? Just make it a BRG deck.
A fecundity to draw what you just put in your graveyard.
A thunderscape familiar to really speed things along.
Two of them out, and you have infinite mana with a blood vassal.
Just one familiar out, and you have at least infinite storm/gravestorm with blood vassal.
With no familiars out, you can still play blood pet.

And you fill their face with 12 gauge and lobotomies.

harvester of souls is your friend here along with whatever other combo you're working on.
