this card is godly. i would recomend this card to anyone who uses sunburst. infact, use no less that 2. is the fact that you can gain 5 life per turn not enough? well what about energy chamber. even if you only have 1 out, you gain 6 life the next turn, then 7, then 8, and so on. with even more energy chambers and goblets, you will have life in the 50s atleast by the time the game is done.

Radagastx said it right. Sunburst this baby properly and you'll have life flowing out of every orifice. Personal record is 78.

Say it with me, kids: life gain, unaccompanied by other effects, is not very good because it does not affect the board.

Life gain on its own can be useful against highly aggressive decks. But this takes too long to get on line. Earliest you'll gain life without mana acceleration--and a control deck typically has no reason to play mana acceleration--is turn six. Too late!

I have used this plus energy chamber to gain hundreds of life in a multiplayer game and successfully survive a double-teaming. It's an amazing card if you plan on the game going for a while.

Doubling Season + Paradox Haze + This + Ouphe if you spent 3 Mana = 24 life per turn.

@KrosanGardner if you can make a good sunburst deck. which obviously you are unable to. you can get this out turn 3 or so with all five counters on it.

All from Fifth Dawn. (Excluding the Forests, those were from Mirrodin)

T1 : Forest, Myr Servitor
T2 : Forest, Sylvok Explorer
T3 : Forest, Channel the Suns, Clearwater Goblet with 5 counters on it

I know that it's really hard to pull off, you have to get all these really expensive cards, they are from scattered sets, you have to play a five colored deck, and since you're playing "life gain, unaccompanied by other effects" (as KrosanGardener put it) you've probably lost by turn 3 anyway.

Knowing all that, and knowing it's very difficult to believe, I am about to tell you that I have made that exact play before. Call me a liar if you want.

@KrosanGardener
By your logic Black Lotus and Ancestral Recall wouldn't be very good either.

Pretty good. There are a lot of good combos, especially with proliferate.

dismantles best friend,

Had a gemstone array with 40 counters on it, then dismantle came along, then I had a clearwater goblet with 45 counters on it

I can't really see myself using this in regular decks, casual or not, but I do want it for my five-colour EDH, either way. In multiplayer it's great.

I use this card in my five color Honden deck. This, with Honden of Cleansing Fire makes my life total easily reach the hundreds, especially with Paradox Haze. However, this is normally in multi-games, where people usually don't focus on me much because I don't play aggressively. They just see a guy with one of each land, and by the time the extra upkeeps and life gain start I'm way out of range of combat damage for most decks.

this is really only good in a 5 color deck, but otherwise, it's fairly good

I made a Vorel of the Hull Clade deck, and this card is one of the surprisingly effective cards I tossed in on a whim. It's never larger than 2 counters at first, but it's REALLY easy to mess with and it gets you a lot of life fast. Thrummingbirds + Vorel and/or Gilder Bairn = some seriously scary combinations. It's not too hard to take it down, but it's still awesome.

Heh heh. You may.
You can't make me gain 5 life! I do what I want!

KrosanGardener is so wrong haha continual lifegain is applicable almost always. Think about it. At the very least it basically Pacifies a fatty. If you're playing your deck right, they aren't hitting you for more than five anyway. Even five is kind of a lot...
