Not necessarily. Say your running an artefact modular deck you could use this on your own creatures and in affect transfer the +1/+1 counters with out getting them killed by your opponent.

Take down one of your own artifact creatures with Modular to put twice what it had on another artifact creature (with modular?) Scary.

I wouldnt call this a situational card at all

you build a deck while keeping this in mind

use this on modular (arcbound overseer, crusher etc) and mirrodin cards that lets you pay mana to add counters to them ( gemstone array, clockwork vorrack, dragon), and use blinkmoth urn

i have had games where i gain 40 life each turn, after i have dismantle'd a gemstone array onto clearwater goblet and then opponent concedes.

now we are in mirrodin again this card is one of the few ish cards that can save indestrucible artifact creatures from -1/-1 counters... too bad it is sorcery speed still, with liquidmetal coating you could destroy a level up creature with both level up counters, and -1/-1 counters on it then make them into counters on your artifacts

Fun against planeswalkers with Liquimetal Coating in play? :) It doesn't specify which counters. . .

Nuke your own Surge Node and you have a whopping 6 charge counters going somewhere! Perhaps a Lux Cannon? Or maybe 6 more counters on Darksteel Reactor?

There are no bomb counters in Magic.
There are, however, trap counters.

As everyone's saying, Darksteel Reactor works well with this.

My favorite one to use, though? Eternity Vessel.

The only real issue is that Vessel costs 6, so by that point you'll probably be down some life, but seriously. Just look at all those counters.

You could always use Chimeric Mass as well, though, or even move some from Vessel to Chimeric Mass for a massive damage attack.

As everybody has mentioned, you can blow up your own artifacts with this for benefit. What nobody has seemed to mention, though, is that this is also just normal artifact destruction. This thing was a game-changer in Mirrodin limited. Sorcery speed doesn't nerf it, it balances it. Even at sorcery speed though, this is often a 2-for-1. Blow up one of their artifacts, make your dude bigger. What's not to love? Sure, not all artifacts have counters. Not that big a deal. Still kills things!

because of the flavor text, it should have salvage.

I have two questions:

1) Can I destroy an Artifact Creature with this card?

2) Say I destroy an artifact, would I be able to use the charge counters to add fade counters to, say, Rusting Golem?
