I also like this artwork most, don't quite get why Wizards let Puddnhead make a new one for 9th Edition.
Don't get me wrong, his artwork is awesome as well, but this one suits better to the effect imho. And this art was already a new one exclusively drawn for the Core Set - not the one from Stronghold. So i wonder why it got changed again - Puddnhead's artwork could have been used for another great black enchantment instead. Well, now these days most people will ássociate Grave Pact with Puddnhead's art.

(Card Rating: 4.0) Grave Pact is always a pleasure to play in a multiplayer format. If your oponent's do not have an answer for an enchantment in thier hand, any strategy they have involving even the most sturdy of creatures (i.e. Progenitus) will be fruitless. In light of the hefty 3 black mana required to cast it, Grave Pact is a rather difficult card to splash. Because having more than one in your hand equates to a dead card, Grave Pact makes my list of superb "one of's". Since you will be already running black, I recommend Demonic Tutor and Vampiric Tutor to make it seem like you are running three in your deck. If you are on a budget, Diabolic Tutor will suffice. In my favorite casual black/red goblin deck, I run 1 Grave Pact along with... 4 Mogg War Marshal, 2 Goblin Chirurgeon, 2 Skirk Prospector, and 1 Tuktuk the Explorer to ensure fodder plus an instance speed FREE sac. engine. I also run 1 Goblin Warrens to 99% ensure an opponent will NOT have a creature on the board! A Phyrexian Tower also works well to supply the sacrifice engine and black mana needed. On a side note, the artwork for the 8th edition version is fantastic. Check it out! (Posted By: Misago)

multiple grave pacts aren't dead... they trigger seperately!

Really?
This one looks cartoony and contrived to me. The grim reaper standing there and pointing is a bit too much. And it doesn't make sense that the grave looks like it's already full. The better choice would have been to have the pit open, readily accepting a ton of new bodies.

why do you guys keep calling him death? he's wearing white so he's obviously not death! actually, he's "white ninja death" ha ha ha ha ha ha..that was corny, i apologize..
i personally prefer this art because it looks cool and brings back the fantasy feel to the game, but it sure is a flavor trainwreck..
reminds of dicken's the christmas carol..

This is my favorite art for this card, and I feel those who say it doesn't make sense are misinterpreting it.
The grim reaper's job is to take dead souls to the afterlife, not put bodies in graves. That's why the grave is filled in.
This is what happens when Death comes to take you, and you argue with him that you're not dead. He takes you to your own grave and points to it, as if to say "Oh yeah? Well tell me, wiseguy, if you're not dead, what's your body doing six feet below a tombstone?"
