Wish this was an instant to get some extra value in response to removal, but nonetheless this is pretty interesting. You'll need to be sacing a creature with 3 power or more to get the same card advantage out of it as Mind Rot.

I'm just waiting to cast Master of the Feast on turn 3 and holding a Quicken and this card for the turn after.

@Purplerooster: We don't really get instant speed discard nowadays.

That doesn't mean we can't get any.
I think this would have been a good candidate for instant speed discard.
It's conditional since you need a creature for it to work, and if you decide to cast it on your opponent's turn to make him discard that one card he drew, you will in a way have to suffer card disadvantage as well, since you could otherwise have cast this spell in response to an opponent's removal.

So yes, this would have been awesome at instant speed.
At Sorcery speed, I think this could have passed for 1Black as well.

I might still try it with cards like Sheltering Ancient or Vexing Devil, though.
There should be a couple of fun limited plays happening with Master of the Feast as well.

Bearer of the Heavens for fragile and unreliable combo!

You can not grasp the true form of Ashiok's attack!

Kinda narrow. You should cast it early-mid game (turn 3-4) and you have a high power (>=3) creature to throw away. However, if you can manage that you'll pretty much leave them empty handed.

Don't try it against blue mage though;
It suffers from Harrow syndrome and as such is suspectible to counterspells.
