Gruul just got a new friend. Expect the tribute on this thing to be paid every time; even so, it's a 4/4 trample for 3!

You always get a 4/4 with trample for three. The question is, which turn?

Tribute done right. One of the power uncommons of the set.

"It's bad because the opponent gets to choose!"

That's the secret, I'm okay with either choice.

I just wish it would gain haste permanently-not just until end of turn.

Compares with Ghor-Clan Rampager. This will definitely get played in Standard.

@Purplerooster
Why would he need haste forever?

So... You're going to hit me for four now unless I choose to let it stay a four forever?

I choose doom blade.

I feel like after seeing the God of Revels, I kinda became a Fanatic inside too.

Excellent example for a Tribute card done right.

I like Punisher cards (like Breaking Point or Dash Hope), Tribute is basically the creature-specific variation.

This is the definition of what Tribute needed to be for EVERY card (other than, you know, key commons and such for Limited):
Either mode is pretty interesting, but still something you WANT to play, either an above-curve creature or a decent ability tacked onto a creature.

Heck, I'd be happy with the 3/3 trample. The tribute is all upside from there.

Red/Green deserves this at uncommon, especially because of all the overly efficient creatures White/Green has managed to get over the last two sets. My dream in casual is to curve this right into Gruul War Chant; they both even have the war paint and fire ritual themes going on. Small Vorthos dream right there. Also Standard worthy, but I wouldn't expect to see it in any older format. Its long term legacy will be getting your temporary ally at the kitchen table to set it to the thing that is worst for the biggest threat at the table. So long as that isn't you (yet).

This is the kind of guy that makes me think Wizards are trying to see how much the creature curve can bend safely. I think everyone is perfectly fine letting most of the tribute creatures get their counters, since they have no protection against the myriad of cost-efficient removal available. As spells get a bit weaker over time and creatures push the power curve, I feel that game balance will eventually get to a point where non-protected creatures and spells are on the same level.

It'll be interesting to see how these guys do next standard, with cards like putrefy and dreadbore out.

Other than that, Tribute has great flavor, and occasionally wonderful playability.

Not as strong a card as originally expected. Not bad, but not good either.

The awkward moment when you realize that the corpse he is holding ain't a rabbit but a deer offspring.

Can someone clear up my confusion about the wording on this card?

If the tribute isn't paid, is it...

1) "gets +1/+1" and "gains haste until end of turn"
or
2) "gets +1/+1 and gains haste" until end of turn

In other words, is the +1/+1 until end of turn or until the creature leaves the game? The way it's written makes me think its until it leaves the game, but that would make this the stupidest tribute ever. "Do you want to let your opponent have haste?" Um... no, thank you.

I love this card!! I thought Xenagos was a satyr though, so why is his fanatic a centaur?!

In my opinion, this is the best card to come out of BNG

Yeah, brimaz is cool, and courser is good too, but this guy brings power creep to an awesome level

So basically, you get a 4/4 trampler for 3, guaranteed for one turn.

Hey, I'm pretty chill with that.

Most people are afraid of the haste, so they opt out and put a counter on it, which is probably the worse idea

This guy is a power 3 drop, and makes blocking tricky for your opponents if it comes out early.

Have you ever seen a turn one elvish mystic into a turn two Fanatic? Thats a lot of power early.

4/5, way better than Loxodon Smiter IMO

Man, what a great card for Bloodbraid Elf to cascade into. That will put some serious pressure on an opponent, especially if you have a Ghor-clan Rampager or two in hand.

I would say that this is one of, if not the best tribute card. What you want out of a tribute creature is to have the two options be as similar as possible, and I think this guy does that.
