I like how they just have a random colorless artifact sable.
2/1 for {2} isn't the worst though. Not very interesting though, I wonder why it's in the set.

As of now, Mistform Ultimus has to worry about being hunted for its fur.

This isn't good in Limited even though you might think it would be. But a 2/1 with no evasion that dies to anything in the format just isn't a good pick. That being said, I still like to pick it because it's so cute and because I can flesh out my deck with it. Still, for an animal that has been dipped in molten bronze, it's has a surprising amount of fight left in it.

"First sable in Magic. Sable tribal in Theros?" -- Trygon_Predator
Eh, I don't know. Sable tribal in Lorwyn seems like the better idea.

So, how is a sable different from a ferret? Because ferret is an already existing creature type (Joven's Ferrets), and I'm wondering why WotC didn't use it, instead.

Sables join the all-artifact creature types club, along with golems, myr, thopters and sheep.
Very underwhelming, but it fills a spot in every deck and could be a side in against a creature with intimidate if there are not better answers.

All right, time to build my Sable tribal deck for EDH! I just need a commander...uh...Mistform Ultimus?

They did such a great job with The Returned, creating almost a culture and a great story. Here, though, they're just serving as another undead horde to mow down. C'mon, you can pull this stuff in Innistrad, but not Theros!

Why do the mammals keep getting extremely specific creature types while the other classes get lumped severely (ie: dinosaurs are Lizards, all birds are Bird)? Very unfair and nonsensical.

Wikipedia says: "Martens are omnivorous animals related to wolverines, minks, badgers, ferrets, and weasels." The sable is one specific species of marten. This is ridiculous.

Colorless 2/1 for 2 isn't bad, deserves at least a 3/5. East to cast and can bypass color-protection.

I agree with the other posters, the "Sable" creature type is entirely too specific for Magic. If they're going to give sables their own creature type, then they could definitely, among many other things, make Deadly Grub into a "Beetle", Giant Solifuge into a "Solifuge" and Man-O'-War into a "Man-O'-War".

@Atali Exactly! I honestly could not have said it any better myself, nor could I agree more. Amen.
@HuntingDrake And even the marginally less specific Badger is its own creature type. I really don't get what Wizards is thinking. Quite pointless really, and doesn't contribute to already existing creature type synergy, e.g. Beast. Not to mention, Sables don't even exist in Greece, which Theros is clearly based on...
@TrygonPredator Please, don't encourage them.
Some of you may think "Oh, Sable as a new creature type? It's just a novelty, NBD." But the whole situation is actually pretty stupid, all things considered. Especially since I (and most likely many others) have been wanting Dinosaurs for what seems like an eternity now... Dinosaurs = cool, Sables = not Sell your product, Wizards.

Adaptive Automaton - "Ah, a new army to lead, I wonder whos tribe I shall help today?"
He's a fine creature for two mana and artifact. He's never exciting, but he's always welcome to fill up the slot. I like him in theros draft. There are plenty of cards he can trade for, and he wears gorgon's head like a professional.
Not every card is going to be a shiny dragon or angel. This guy is the very definition of the filler creatures that you don't want, but that you need to have.
