To further compair this to Smite the Monstrous this is uncommon. That was common. They REALLY made removal suck in the set.

Fantastic artwork! :D
...
Yeah, I got nothin'.
One of the most egregious examples of reverse power creep I have ever seen.
A simple reprint of Smit the Monstrous would have been ok. Or maybe this, add Scry 1, make it a sorcery, but keep it at . Would also not have been so bad, you know.
This just sucks totally. Maybe the worst card in the set. Elspeth should write a formal letter of protest.

Apparently, it costs as much to make the planeswalker kill the monster as it does to summon the planeswalker in the first place.
Horrible card design once again, should have been just 5 mana as compared to Smite the Monstrous. Hell even that would have fit the flavour in this set.
Now it just limited fodder that won't even be used in casual decks

Should be this: Vanquish the Foul Sorcery Destroy target creature with power 4 or greater, scry 1.
Heck man, look at how good Intrepid Hero was and he was repeatable.

... and no flavour?
Fine then, Elspeth. I thought I was going to invite you to the party of "Things I'd like to Draft", but now you're just being a complete toolbag.

Yea, scry 1 isn't enough to justify upping the cost of Smite the Monstrous by 2. Now, if it was scry 3, then it might be playable.

Hey Elspeth, you suck at destroying stuff.

For the same casting cost you could just have the real deal come out and do a better job of it.

Damnit Elspeth, I told you to leave my spitting hydras alone. No one ever listens to me.

I'd still take this in Theros limited. Still deserves its rating of 1.2/5.

Oddly enough, it's utterly useless against the Hydra challenge deck.

Very good in Theros limited for removing that pesky Voltron you've been holding back with a 1/1 deathtouch. Outside of the Voltron block, you'd use something better.

Scry is so sneakily powerful, that every card with it looks unreasonably expensive.
edit: My initial comment was made seven months ago, before Reprisal was confirmed for a reprint. Expect this card's rating to drop almost a full star in the coming weeks.

Six mana is a gigantic cost, but expensive removal was okay in Theros/Theros/Theros and Born/Theros/Theros draft and sealed. I thought Sip of Hemlock was great in sealed.
But this is extremely expensive and it only has a very small benefit in scry 1, and you can't even use it all the time! There are a lot of very dangerous creatures with less than four power. It's not uncommon to be pulverized by a deck with many minotaur- or centaur-sized creatures and nothing bigger. And it's a sorcery. This sucks far more than I expected.

According to the logic of this card, scry 1 is an ability worth {5} at instant speed. By this same logic Magma Jet should cost {14} {R}. Sorceries usually cost {1} less when it comes to removal and draw (though not always) The absolutely insane thing about this is what it is sharing a block with. Reprisal,Revoke Existence,Excoriate,Chained to the Rocks,Banishing Light,Deicide,Divine Verdict and conditional but relevant Glare of Heresy. Every single one of those cards and the few I didn't mention are better white removal than Vanquish the foul, and those are just the ones in Theros block. Therefore I must pose the question: why did they print this at uncommon? As a common it would still be garbage, but understandable as a draft card. For 6 this should be destroying every creature with 4+ power or exiling a target creature and gain life at instant speed. Even in RTR block where removal is scarce, there are better white removal spells than this. Trostani's Judgment isn't a good card but it costs the same, is an instant and has an additional feature that one could justify paying extra mana for since it would equate to another potentially large creature. So again- WHY DOES THIS EXIST AND WHY IS IT UNCOMMON?

Okay, what the hell, Wizards? I could accept this if it was common. But uncommon? Really? Scry 1 is NOT worth 4 mana and sorcery speed, and it's NOT worth 2 mana and upgrading to uncommon. Seriously, this is nonsense. Whenever I see this in a pack, it's just a big **** you.

Then we get Smite the Monstrous for 4
Now we have Vanquish the Foul for 6
What's next?
Destroy the Abominable for 8?
Now it just limited fodder that won't even be used in casual decks
Vanquish the Foul
Sorcery
Destroy target creature with power 4 or greater, scry 1.

- Costs 4 more mana
- Sorcery instead of instant
- Creature can be regenerated
+ Scry 1
...Huh. Yeah, this card sucks, even compared to Smite the Monstrous.
