With our amazing mana bases going away this is slightly less awesome, obviously best with sacred foundry and pretty good overall

Best used on Titan of Eternal Fire, if you want the flavor to get even more in your eyes.

This is what Path to Exile was supposed to be, rather than the mindlessly good card that it is now.

Talk about flavor. This card is dripping. Also very neat way to support enemy colors. Definitely want a few.

Even with the weakened mana bases in Standard this card pulls immense weight at nearly any point in the game. If you're running Boros with even just a red splash these are almost 100% worthwhile it.
Easy 5/5 in the right deck.

Nice reference to Prometheus being bound to a rock by adamantine chains.
Also, this only fits in a R/W or R/W/? deck so 3.5/5

Very nice one-mana removal. Boros is looking pretty strong once this set comes out.
Yes, I know it is somewhat weaker, and that's the point :) It's both weaker, and more flavorful. White targeted removal? I don't have much problem with it being good.....I DO have some problems with it being so common :/
This is the right rarity, and the rarity lets it have some way cooler flavor than farmland stuff :) I mean I like the flavor of Swords to Plowshares too, bc it's appropriate and neat for uncommon... :/
but color philosophy wise, it shouldn't be an uncommon effect. :P

I think this is going to get the immediately recognizable short form of "Chained" that the two removal giants, Path and Swords, have already.

They laughed when I showed them my RW prison deck... But who's laughing now!?
They need to make a version that works with blue: Sacrifice target creature to target Kraken creature in hopes of calming down Thassa.

Extremely flavourful. Chain a creature to the mountains so that they can be eternally picked apart by an eagle, just like Prometheus!

Absolutely love the flavor of this card. For the sake of mythological correctness it could be based on either the story of Prometheus or Andromeda. The Greek gods did love their chaining people to rocks!

Damn do I love the card design. It's a shame there isn't a cycle, but then again, it doesn't really get better than exile.

Remember when we all worried about not having a good solution to Voice of Resurgence?
Against a deck without enchantment removal (and assuming you have a Mountain), this is a sorcery speed Swords to Plowshares. Which is extremely strong.

From Maro's article today:
"The design version could enchant any Mountain..." "Chained to the Rocks was originally common."
WHAT. And this, my friends, is why development exists.

To try to answer my own question, I see that the only way for someone to get their card back is to destroy that land (or the enchantment). So that's interesting. Also, it's a 1-mana card that exiles nicely, so it's pretty powerful I guess.

This is what Theros should be about. Cards that reference our most cherished myths. Mechanics that echo ancient narratives. Cards that are fun, playable, but won't be ubiquitous.

In Limited, it seems like it'd work well in green decks using Nylea's Presence for mana-fixing too.

Yes Wizards. Yes.
I do think it would work better overall if it could enchant any mountain though. It would then become White's answer for those who like to play with fire. Purphoros would keep it from being broken.

Like Zombie Apocalypse, just one of those cards I have to play because come on. Look at it! Doesn't matter if it's good or not (thankfully it is very playable), I just have to. The flavor in this set is savory indeed.

Very cool flavor and all, but what makes me love this card is how awkward it it, functionally. Its a land aura that targets a creature, is white but only enchant mountains. It's so messy it reminds me of the good old alpha days of weird wording and strange cards.

It's not that this card isn't oozing with mythological flavor, it's not this card isn't just incredibly fun to use, it's not that it isn't entertaining to tell people that you're going to chain their best creature to some rocks... I love this card but when you compare it to journey to nowhere, doesn't it make you wonder why chained is a rare? Journey is splashable, doesn't require you to play red, won't be destroyed along with your land, costs just one colorless more and it's a common! Chances are, you're playing this turn two anyway so the one less mana over journey is mostly irrelevant. I could see this being a staple uncommon but I would prefer to open nearly any other rare in my Theros booster packs than this card.

Yeah, it's pretty good. cheap, has a good effect, and land enchantments are a tad bit harder to kill that creature auras.

I find it flavorfully odd that the mountain could then erupt and the creature would come back completely unharmed.

This isn't a 3.5 card. On flavor alone it deserves at least a 3.5. If it also cost ten life to play I could see a 3.5 rating. The fact you could even consider sleeving it up for Standard is just icing.

To each his/her own, but personally I like when Wizards is actually creative, rather than just copying overdone myths that everybody knows about. I actually ended up really liking Theros, because it wasn't entirely composed of cards like this.
Though, I guess how well people know about a myth depends partly on where those people are from. I still don't see a lot of the references to Japanese mythology and culture in Kamigawa block, because I'm not really used to Japanese culture and mythology. Because of this, even the characters in that setting that may be extremely blatantly based off of some Japanese myth feel original to me.

Theros gives us three excellent solutions: Chained to the Rocks, Thoughtseize, and Anger of the Gods.
