Well things that are tapped are usually attacking and thus a problem. Card makes sense to me.

It is a better Vengeance, that's pretty good.

HEY! SO THIS IS A CARD! And.. that's.. all I have to say about this. Good in Limited OBVIOUSLY since removal is so awful in the format. Otherwise, don't feel bad if you leave your playset out in the rain or ruin them in the wash.

I'm fascinated by the interplay between this, Asphyxiate, and inspired.

The white card removes a tapped creature. Tapped here represents some act of aggression, some place where that creature has taken action - perhaps with one of the tapping auras - against you ,or in benefit to their player. Excoriate is thus a form of white vengeance, punishment for wrong action.

But what happens if you don't act? If you hang back in fear of being punished? You asphyxiate. You cease to breath. Your stagnation kills you, as the very life force itself turns against you.

and what is inspiration? That thing sought by artists everywhere? It is to walk the line between excoriation and asphyxiation. It is to be at risk to both. Only in the face of that risk does inspiration arise.

Parasophia would be proud.

Dear Born of the Gods, your black exile spell is more powerful than your white one. Just wanted to let you know. Cheerio!

I like how Erebos and Heliod are tag teaming the pesky demon.

If this were a "traditional" set, I would complain about it being "somewhat" costy, but in Theros block where removal is usually very costy? This is actually pretty good, especially the fact that it doesn't take into account the power or toughness of the creature you're about to exile (things can get real big in Theros when people focus enchantments on them).

It's not cheap because they want you to use it on Desecration Demon and other problem beaters; even though it works just fine on mana-dorks and such (tap to produce..)

They also want to limit the ability to hate on inspired early game since it takes almost 'til turn 4 to even get a Pain Seer to draw a card. If you have a set mechanic you don't want to hate it completely out of the game before it's done something.
