This card was awesome in Magic 2013 draft, I got a hunch it will be equally awesome in this set.

I kept getting this Duress'd out of my hand on turn one, so I'm still not sure how good this is.

@Hussalo Well think about it: he was actually duressing it because of how good it is. Volcanic Geyser isn't too good in quick formats (standard, extended, any of the eternal formats), but it shines in EDH, or commander, where you have 40 life and large decks with a LOT of mana.

Why is this more expensive than Devil's Play? What a tragedy

Why is this more expensive than Devil's Play? Probably because it's instant-speed. Instant-speed (especially with 'X' in its cost) can rarely be a bad thing!
Instants are much more useful, and hence tend to cost a little bit more. But think about what you're getting. You can keep your mana open until the last minute, which inevitably leads to you having lots more options.
Personally, in a deck full of blue instants and some Goblin Electromancers, I think the trade-off between costing one more red and gaining instant speed is a good one.

Casting a Fireball out of nowhere can be a lot better than casting it for less sometimes. Comet Storm is a mythic rare and shouldn't be discussed here.

Instant vs. Sorcery is a valid argument as to why this costs more than Devil's Play.
Rarity is not a valid argument, and here is why:

Though I have seen many more AWESOME Rares than I have seen awesome Commons, the rarity indicator is not a direct indicator of the power or utility of a card. Rarity is a filter for limited, to control how often people want to see a specific card (you would never want to see a Door to Nothingness in a draft) and to control fairness in seeing a specific card. The likelihood of seeing a specific bomb goes down proportionately to the highness of the rarity. So, while my second statement may support your notion that "RARE = BETTER CARD", you can see that there are examples of Rares that are Rare because they're niche cards, not because they're efficiently costed or even good cards.

That being said, this card is good. I think I'd prefer Ghitu Fire if I wanted my Blaze to be instant speed, but there's something to be said for all variable-costed spells: No matter how far into the game you may be, they're always usable.

I am hopefully going to abuse this card with all of that mana I'll be ramping using nykthos

The instant speed is only good if you have other instant speed things. Otherwise its not that much different from casting it on your main phase, but you do get a chance to see any other targets to hit.
