Craw Wurm is probably like the grandpa that says "back in MY day..."

Otherwise known as "Wurm of Power Creep". It seems pretty sad that this is better than Vizzerdeix, a rare in the old days.

With a name like Ruination Wurm, why is this vanilla?

Red and green deserve this at common.

This card is following in the tradition of Streetbreaker Wurm. A Craw Wurm would normally cost 6, but by going into R/G you can get it for 5. Being a 7/6, Ruination Wurm is a Scaled Wurm with a R/G discount. Green is supposed to be THE big creature color, so it has always deserved to have better than Vizzerdrix and Trained Orgg. Though Scaled Wurm was costed at 8, it is definitely fair for Green to get a 7/7 for 7 mana. Looking at it that way, Ruination Wurm costs 1 less than "normal" in exchange for being multicolor.

Congratulations! Your Streetbreaker Wurm has evolved into...
...
Ruination Worm!

And the Gruul tradition of making bizarrely playable vanilla creatures continues. Huzzah!

This will be an important card in limited, folks. Mark my words! A cost effective common bomb should NOT get overlooked.

Will wreck house in limited with some bloodrush/trample.

A vanilla common that has more power than CMC. Nothing special, but gets the job done.

I'm noticing a lot of cards are CMC 6. There's quite a few at CMC 7 too. Maybe having a lot of tiny creatures is not the thing for this set. I can definitely see the value of having multiples of a fatso like this in limited.

2.7/5 yet nobody has anything bad to say about it. I gave it a 5 to balance things out. We would have killed for a card like this during the Ice Age.

Neat art (wurms are always awesome) and solid if expensive. A beating in Limited if you manage to cast it.

I bet they printed this just so someone could Bloodrush it with Wrecking Ogre.

Good stats for a vanilla common.

Strictly less capable of being your commander than The Lady of the Mountain.

awesome vanilla creature but... still vanilla. I understand that they have to print them but I'd rather it have trample and some kind of drawback. drawbacks are fun. You work around them. flipping all your mana for a vanilla creature? not awesome. I'm sure this will see play in draft or something...

Yes sirs, your 6CMC vanilla now kills your opponent in 3 shots rather than 4. Rejoice!

Who knew Streetbreaker Wurm had an even bigger brother?

Also, I'm pretty sure the artistic resemblance between this card and Killer Instinct wasn't coincidental, considering they both bear the Gruul watermark.

a 7/6 for 6 mana in colors to give it trample or haste and at common what's not to like, I think it's the supposed to be the limited counterpart to axebane stag

...and yet... it still trades with Craw Wurm.

>be ruination wurm
>just chillin'
>summoned by a planeswalker
>planeswalker was all like, shouldn't you have trample or something
>y'know, if i'm paying 6CMC
>i'm all like +1/+0 THE HEART
>then i backflip outta there and kill a human token
>best day ever

Next, on the DeVanilla project, where we take overcosted vanilla cards, and inspire them with unique mechanics.

For Ruination Wurm, I'd give:
Sacrifice an artifact or land: Ruination Wurm has -1/-0 until end of turn. Any player may play this ability

This is a common, which means there are many of these just roaming Ravnica and destroying everything in their path. Just let that sink in.

I think this honestly deserves a higher rating. Back when I played a Naya deck that I called slivers even though only half of the deck was slivers, I played one or two of these. It started winning me games when I gave it Shiv's Embrace. There's just nothing better than evasive fatties, lemme tell ya. 4/5.
