Far, far better than it looks, given that it looks like a complete dog when you first read it. Combos well with a variety of things. Of course it's hardly a Psychatog but it's one of those nice, simple cards with a lot of subtle applications.

The only good thing about this card is the art. It's awesome!

Amazing with cards like Equilibrium and Intruder Alarm. I used to use this guy in my Mirage/Tempest standard (type II) Prodigal Sorcerer deck (there were 3 legal prodigal sorcerer remakes at the time, including the great Suq-Ata Firewalker). Combine with Quirion Dryad, Birds of Paradise or, for mono-blue, Sea Scryer for infinite damage (or mana if you use a second mana-creature instead of sorcerer).

Combos pretty well with mono blue sorcery speed storm
+1 storm count per blue mana.
Thus fairly easy to brainstorm for 15.
Not the best combo, just pointing out some synergy.

This card has its applications, particularly when used in concert with creatures that have "come into play" abilities like Wood Elves and Wall of Blossoms.

Hey, a drake that doesn't suck.

This guy gets pretty stupid with Animar out. Or, I should say Animar gets pretty stupid with him out.

Single-handedly triggers Vengevine: Cast Shrieking Drake, return itself, repeat. Vines will need to be Pathed/Plowed to be removed as a threat, otherwise they're back every turn.
Compare to Faerie Impostor. The Impostor is twice as strong, but can't bounce herself.
So if you just planned on using him to bounce another one of your creature, run the Impostor instead.
However, this Drake can still be interesting if you want to abuse his cip/etb trigger on itself to make use of the triggered ability of another permanent (see Shapter's list), or the Storm effect of some instant/sorcery, or to accomplish other stuff done by casting plenty of spells in one turn, like getting Erayo flipped.

I can see a really weird Vengevine deck which uses this card to play itself twice each turn.

genesis chamber
intruder alarm
silver myr
viridian longbow
for reasonably nasty results
